Are you good at video games?

Question

My little brother and his friends are always playing and begging me to play with them. But I just suck... they beat me every time.

Modern games are designed that way on purpose.

Back in the early days, most games were single player (so still fun even if you sucked), and in multiplayer games the player with the greater skill would usually win. Games these days tend to reward other things instead of skill, such as:
1.) Spending real money to get better items/stats/etc (AKA "pay to win").
2.) Spending time playing the game to get better items/stats/etc (AKA "grinding").
3.) Spending time memorizing arcane information (stats, locations and even exploitable bugs).

It means that even the most hopelessly uncoordinated person can still be successful in multiplayer games, if they put the time in.
And not only do players enjoy winning a lot more than they enjoy losing, but the process of going from "hopelessly uncoordinated person" to "winner" also gives them an added (false) sense of achievement - so it's no surprise this is popular with the game-buying public.

I never had a video game system when I was a kid, because my family was too poor to afford spending money on stuff like that. So I never really had the opportunity to learn.

I guess the only silver lining is that I can say that I'm not addicted to video games. Since I don't even play them.

I’m about as good as playing video games as an ashtray on a motorbike. But…having said that, I used to love playing ‘Zelda’ on the Nintendo. I could always get to the final stage, but could never complete it…no matter how much I tried.

Yeah, I'm pretty good at video games, but not like, tournament or e-sports level though. Although I did win a Pokemon national championship when I was young.

Pretty good at them, better at others
My boyfriend is a savage raider and said I had a 30% growth and needed a few things to work on in ffxiv so I felt super good about it. And really good at overwatch.

Don't play games for the purpose of being good at it. Just enjoy the game (some games do make you competitive but nevertheless, you enjoy the competition)

I'm decent at fighting games, great at platformers, but suck at shooters and rougelikes. Gaming skill isn't an all or nothing affair, it's incredibly nuanced, testing a wide range of skill sets.
