What's your opinion on the movie, Saving Private Ryan?

One of the three roles Tom Hanks should have won Best Actor for, but he didn't.
He was nominated for 1998 Best Actor as Captain John Miller in this film, but he did not win.
He should have been nominated but wasn't for 1999 Best Actor as Paul Edgecomb in "The Green Mile".
He was also nominated for 2000 Best Actor as Chuck Noland in "Cast Away", but he did not win.
=======
About the film itself, the ending scenes with the dying Miller telling Ryan to "Earn this." - Earn the life he got to live while almost all of his group were eventually killed trying to find Ryan and "save" him letting him know that he could go home. Then, in the present day, we see Ryan, an old man visiting Miller's grave at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in France, and he asks his wife if he was a good man - in essence, getting affirmation that he did earn that life Miller and his men sacrificed theirs for. It brings tears to a man's eyes because it goes to the essence of being a man.
A good film, very exciting. The scene at the end where then now (very old) Private Ryan begs his wife to say that he lived a good life put a limp in my throat and a tear in the corner of my eye.
On the other hand, in many scenes the drama was overdone. When the Captain orders an assault on a machinegun nest, the subject isn't open for debate, and no PFC is going to offer up suggestions. The only person who would have the captain's ear would be the First Sergeant.
Never really watched it. The movie starts, slaughtering while landing on Omaha beach, I start a nap for a hour. When I weak up some guys commit suicide while sticking their dirty socks on a Tiger tank. The end. I'm hungry and I crave for a steak medium.
First time I watched this movie in '98 was inside a movie theater. Once again, I was in awe of Tom Hanks' superb acting. I never seem to get tired of this movie and many other Tom Hanks movies.

I love most movies thart Tom Hanks stars in. This is definitely a good one and most popular. I heard he directed a mini series that takes place during the war called Band of Brothers. Apparently It's really well done. There's an actor from where I used to live, Barry Pepper, who played Private Jackson the Sniper.
The first half or so is very good. It has minor issues but prior to Band of Brothers releasing, it was probably the most realistic depiction of war that had ever made it to screen.
The second half is nowhere near as good, and definitely where greater liberties were taken.
When I first watched it I was like in 8th grade or something and my buddies and I were all into history and WWII. I mean all sorts of games were coming out for Xbox that were WWII games and it just all went together so well. I couldn’t watch it anymore because it’s not as big of an interest but yea it’s a good movie.
It's really good and very sad. I've been watching people reacting to the movie on YouTube and just watching them reacting to it is quite emotional. There are a couple of scenes that are particularly sad, but I don't want to say anything that could be a spoiler for people that haven't seen it.
In the past, this film was broadcast a lot on a local television channel at certain times of the day. I never watched it because I found it boring. But now I'm a little curious. I'll take a look at the plot of the film right away.
Its a movie inspired by true events but fictionally added the scenes of saving one man. Its the epitomy of Americans believing that america saves and protects the weakest link , but no they use the weakest links far pawns insread. Truly a dusgusting paradox of political backwash and betrayal of its own pwople.
Back when that movie first came out, there were still a lot of WWII vets around. Many of them said that is exactly what the war was like.
Yea it was good, I really liked Hacksaw Ridge too, based on a true story, it's crazy how he managed to save so many people without even holding a gun
It's a very well constructed war movie with a lot of graphic realism in the landing and just the story is well told, but through the eyes of Private Ryan not from the Captains POV.
This is my 2nd favorite war movie. It’s also the first movie where I got to see the other side of Tom Hanks. I’ve seen many movies where he was funny and here, I got to see his serious side.
I was in high school working at the theater when this came out. It drew a lot of people and is violent.
Any guess the name of the porno associated with this?
It was very good. Acting was spot on. Very realistic in every way.
It's an okay movie. The Normandy landing scenes are pretty good and it's all downhill from there, but it's a gentle slope downhill. I also like the bit where spoilers.
it was a game changer back then but in retrospect it's a very bad movie. Too many things wrong with it.
Incredible movie and, according to survivors of the Normandy attack, it is an extremely realistic depiction of the invasion.
It's one of the super popular movies that I still haven't watched yet... is it really that good?
I like the part where everyone dies on the beach. After that I turn the movie off.
Parts of it were hard to watch, but overall it is a good film.
great movie that really changed how war movies and tv should be made.
This is probably my top 3 favorite war films. Its just so good!!
Just another Hollywood propaganda film. Four out of ten.
One of the few war movies that I've seen... Usually not into those. It's a good movie
I don't overanalyze anything. All I remember is that it is till date, the best war movie I ever saw.
meh , i prefer war movies with men carrying swords than guns
its a good movie but i've seen it enough times where i'm done with it
was ok sure it was over done in real life was probably boring
@driven159
That's not what D-Day veterans said when they saw the movie.

it’s ok, there’s a porn making fun of it called shaving ryan’s privates 🤣☺️
Decent movie but it has its flaws because of Hollywood
I like Saving Ryan's Privates better.
It's a fantastic movie.
Sacrifice a platoon too save one guy, smart 🤓.
Matt Damon wasn't worth the hassle.
I really liked it. It was a well made movie.
The opening scene was great in the theater.
