+1 yI mean, when something is violent and illegal, it’s pretty much impossible to defend..
Having said that, the guy needs some kind of intervention. I always felt he seemed to be in pain for years, and I think he’s been putting aside his mental health for a long time.
The standing ovation he was given, was actually a hindrance to his health in the long run. I believe this alongside other events that night, indirectly made him believe his actions were justified. Had a real friend had the courage and wisdom, to tell him the less comfortable truth, perhaps he would not have proceeded to dance to “get jiggy with it,” trophy in hand like nothing had happened.
A real friend will always tell you the truth, NO MATTER how sour it is to swallow. However, people are more bothered about how they look, or the possible backlash for being honest, than actually guiding someone onto the correct path.
There are ways of explaining something, so that you don’t destroy someone’s ego. But ultimately, it could have been done. If Will was my friend, I’d have taken that chance, for the sake of his career and his public image.32 Reply- +1 y
Thank you. A lot of us look to society to know how to choose the next steps in life.
The only society will smith had to take from that night, was in that room...
However, there was a secondary society he wasn’t considering. Which was taking place outside of the oscars. I’m not condoning his actions, not one bit. It was deplorable. But where was the brave soul to take him aside, and burst that bubble of his? Perhaps if someone had, he would have included Chris in his acceptance speech/made amends and salvaged more of his reputation..

+1 yI mean... No. Chris Rock had already said what he intended to. And if anything, all Will's childish act did was make her an even more talked about target for jokes. Because now we know that anything said either /reeeally/ fucking annoys Will, or Jada prompted Will to do what he did.

If he was going to defend his wife, Will could have gone about that in a MUCH different way. Just because a celebrity is incredibly beyond rich, famous and beyond financially powerful, that doesn't imply at all that you are way above and beyond the law and no form of law enforcement can touch you.

He shouldn't have dealt with this at all.

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yJada Koren Pinkett Smith showed her Toxic Femininity at the Oscars, everything was fine until she gave Will Smith the stink eye over Chris Rocks joke.
Will Smith needs to divorce his wife, he's trapped in a bad marriage, she's forced him to accept an 'Open Marriage' that is one sided, and it is not good for his mental health, but if he does divorce her and she contests it they live in California which is a 'no fault' state, so she'll get 50% or more of everything he owns depending on the judge, and she will loose nothing. The best thing she could do is just give him a divorce and let him be happy.11 Reply
+1 yWhile I don't know much other than the reason he did what he did, I guess the question is what is the definition of "protecting". If you mean physically protecting, then no. She was never in any physical danger from someone making a joke.
If you mean emotional? Maybe? I don't know what her emotional state is because of the issue that she has. Perhaps that is why he did it. Hard to say but it is assault nonetheless.11 Reply
+1 yIt was all an act. The smiths famously have an open “marriage”, she sleeps with other men, he sleeps around, with each other’s permission. You really think a comic is gonna slug another comic, over a hair joke?

+1 yI think it had more to do with Will and Jada's relationship, than it had to do with Chris Rock and his mild joke.
Might be will's attempt to be viewed as a man in front of his wife and gain her respect. Kind of sad really, the power she has over him.00 Reply
+1 yWill is publicly cuckolded and ridiculed for years now. He can say he accepts it and supports it all he wants however being in a powerless and humiliating position like that clearly has made him angry and upset. So what happens is he experiences the "cuck angst" where he explodes and reacts poorly because he really wants to smack his wife and her lovers but he can't so he takes his anger out on someone else basically. Cuckolding is bad mkay?

+1 yi think that smith wanted more attention and got it sadly in a bad way.
it was a joke and if he can not take a joke he should not be allowed to be in show business.
i am sure chris rock made fun of many other celeb wives in the world but yet since he was at the Oscars on a grand state it was the perfect place to pick a fight.01 Replyi think he went wayy beyond and an utter overreaction.

+1 yNah, it was a weak move on Will Smith’s part. He could just go ahead and slap August - that would’ve made more sense. Plus, Chris Rock is not a big guy and won’t fight back. It’s like low-hanging fruit.

but you asked about them at all. celebrities are bad people. don't concern yourself with what they do
He didn't protect anything. He just broke his spare shield

Was Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars over a joke about his wife right or wrong?
