How do you describe 90s music?

For me, that decade's music is kinda hard to describe because I can't really feel it's cliche unlike 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 2000s and 2010s.

1950s Many variations of jazz without the funk
1960s so many rock and rolls
1970s Loud and funky unfiltered bass
1980s have so much reverb and synthesizers
2000s Really dry and melodic hip hop with booming drums
2010s High quality electronic synths that sounds precised

1990s however sounds really diverse and hard to describe in one sentence. Some of it sounds ahead of it's time and some sounds so retro. I also noticed a lot of the 70s influence in it not so much for the 80s but at the same time, i can hear the 2000s cliche in it.

Most people voted 90s vibes for my music when i made a poll about which decade vibes it gives them. 80s comes close to the votes. And yeah i haven't paid attention to those 90s style electronic music much and never knew they were popular. It just blew my mind! Because most of the time, when i search 90s music, they get random vibes.

Oh i forgot to talk about how there were so much boy band music in the 90s too. Also felt unlikely when all you remembered was those grunge music and also those cheesy house/rave music. It has a pretty diverse cliche

I would just call it the ~alternative~ decade of music... not only because it definitely was a great time for alternative rock and metal... but it also seemed to be the decade in which you had some many alternatives, both new and renewed, and even newer version of before-proven formulas

and yes it was quite versatile all over the spectrum... you had grunge, you had metal bands surging, trip-hop, brit-pop and rock... new punk, and so many different styles of hip-hop started to emerge as well

and I think that because of MTV, all of the radio stations still in business, and massive sells of music in the form of CD's just opened the gates to a very broad and selection of different styles and types of music

the scene got way bigger because not only you would have your regional and local music but you also had international bands and artists going all over and around the world

A lot of the 90's stuff seemed very counterculture and rebellious/creative/Interesting videos. They also had a lot of lyrics that literally meant nothing, just thrown together in a song because it sounded cool. Alternative, grunge, Dance, Hip hop music.
The 90's was actually an exciting time for Country music fans. There were huge stars like Shania Twain, Alan Jackson, George Straight, Tim McGraw, Garth Brooks and a million other similar performers at that time.

As for your update, I remember the wave of the Boy Band trend hitting hard near the end of the 1990's, early 2000's. There were people in the music industry at that time who literally felt like Boy Bands were the end of music. LoL!
Boy Bands were hated by the Grunge and Alternative crowd. They were seen as having cheesy lyrics, mass produced sound, corny dance moves and lack of instruments and talent.
They kind of signalled the end of the 90's musical era, but Boy Bands were catering to a 14 year old girl fan base at the time and became hugely popular anyway.
Thankfully there were also other cool acts like Eminem to come out of the end of the 90's. He helped shape the next decade of music.

Very different. A lot of alternative merged with classic rock and gangsta rap tracks became filled with almost orchestrational beats. Synth was replaced with grunge, video game music became more complex, and Van Halen started to suck. Then recovered.
