Winnie the Pooh horror is being shot. Thoughts?

If you wonder how it's possible - Winnie debuted in 1926 and now (95 years later) copyrights to him expired, so in theory everyone can do whatever he wants with him.

I am amazed the copyrights were not renewed. Disney and King Features Syndicate went to great lengths to renew copyrights on Mickey Mouse (and affiliated characters) and Popeye (and affiliated characters) respectively.

Now do you mean the A. A. Milne original images or the Disney-fied images, the latter I cannot believe have already been renewed?

When copyright ends, something goes into Public Domain. Now this need not be the end of it, for instance Cartoon Network's "Adult Swim" took failed or less successful Hanna-Barbera cartoons and tinkered with them, making them risque and full of adult humor, such as "Space Ghost", "Harvey Birdman", and "Sealab 2021", and I believe giving them a new "life" in copyright terms.

Two other instances of Copyright vs. Public Domain come to mind:

1. "Heritage Not Hate" vs. neo-Nazi groups, and
2. Scientology

1) Great attempts were made by Civil War re-enactors, historians, and other Southern USA heritage groups to take legal action against Neo-Nazis or other nogoodniks using the "Stars and Bars" or the "X Cross Battle Flag", which, incidentally, are not the same. The Courts have ruled, sadly but quite correctly, that such flags are in the Public Domain now and no one owns the rights to them.

2) On the other hand, Scientology works, unlike the King James or other translations of the Bible, are NOT in the Public Domain, copyrights still hold on them, and the "Church" (sic?) of Scientology has effectively muzzled criticisms of its theology in this manner, as critics cannot do their thing without permission and paying.

They can't use the image of Winnie that Disney made, but they can use the original one.

I have not even know that it has a thriller-based genre except the animation , but sounds cool at the same time. Maybe should be added to what to watch list.

I'm surprised Disney would let that happen; tdey've been pushing vo extend them pretty much forever, to hold on to Mickey. They have enough political pull to make it happen, too. If it's finally failed...
