Is this a sad situation after 3 years of work?

I’ve been trying to write a book for around 3 years and only have 7 book ideas, granted some of those ideas can be used for 13 - 30 books, but is it a sad case that I only have 7 ideas after 3 years? I am taking a 1-2 week sabbatical and than will begin my first series and I have a previous unfinished series I can complete any time.

Only a sad situation if you've put all your eggs in one basket.
Look into what has made others successful.
Example: Rowling has made her mark by creating incredibly detailed characters with supportable backgrounds, while others have been "ghost writers" for series.
Good luck. Wish I could create like that.

I don't think that's bad. You have other things going on in your life and this is a side project. Try to set aside a day to brainstorm and see if you can progress closer to your goal. Also seek feedback on your ideas.

So do you have publisher? Are you a professional writer?

I mean its only sad if your a professional writer and in three years you got nothing... but some writers only come up with one good idea in their life time and make millions, so you got 7 ideas and no millions? So maybe your better than half way there.

I remember as a kid reading series and it took over 2 decades for them to finish a series... you hear about how awesome the books after the first two or three books, so you would breeze through the first three in like a month then have to wait two years for the fourth then the fifth and as was the case with Robert Jordan he died before he finished the series and some other writer wrote the last book for him. Then you got guys like George R. R. Martin who will never finish the books he started.

So it depends how much material do you have written or are they just ideas? Because idea are worth nothing if your not doing any real work on them or have a publishing deal. If the plan is to write a series then usually you need to story board all the planed books in the series so the story line and character arch's stay consistent. So if you got 7 ideas and no story boards or written material then yeah, that means after 3 years you got nothing.

I would assume your editor is getting pissed.

More ideas than I have. Here’s a one, since politicians shouldn’t be paid to represent to public because of corruption, and because no human works for free. In the future, AI now acts as politicians making humanities tough decisions for us, while most of the population generally carries on oblivious like they do now.

seem's you have plenty of ideas for now. after you finish your first book then write your second book and you'll be blessed with more things to write about. Doesn't Bible tells us not to worry.
