What do you think of Tom Brady’s divorce drama?

If you’re not aware, NFL player Tom Brady and his supermodel wife Gisele Bündchen have recently filed for divorce after 13 years of marriage. The couple has two children. When Gisele got pregnant, she retired from modeling to essentially be a full time mom while Tom Brady continued his football career. She was the primary caretaker of their kids which anyone with kids knows is no easy task. Rumors say that Gisele was urging Brady to retire once he hit his 40s (keep in mind the average NFL retirement age is 27, with most players get passed around but teams and receiving one year contract deals after about age 30 because they’re no longer as good as they were due to their old age and are being traded for newer, younger, faster models from college) so he can spend more time with his family and be more involved in his childrens’ life after 22 years in the NFL.

Summer 2022, Brady announced his retirement from the NFL. And 44 days left, he announced that he was unretiring and would continue his NFL career at the age of 45. In the short TikTok below, you can hear a bit about how much Brady prioritizes his family and how much he prioritizes football:

So what do you think about this drama? In your opinion, who’s right and who’s wrong? Is he wrong for putting his career before his family? Is she wrong for wanting him to retire after 22 years in the league to spend more time with his family?

he's probably got a year or two tops. Gisele retired at what 35-37 years of age? She retired because she was too old to be a model. Since her supposed retirement in 2015 Gisele has been part of many advert campaigns and left IMG modeling in 2021. She had her first kid in 2009 and had 3 kids b4 retirement.

What is Brady supposed to do when he retires? Gisele made a choice to retire, she has an army of nannies and house keepers. In reality she wants Brady to follow her around like a dog to various fashion shows. Brady is about to retire after decades of success, meaning he is in decline and his worth to Gisele is worth less that it was previously so she's likely looking for a new man maybe in Hollywood or even politics to up her profile but the truth is she's over 40 which is OAP years as a model and actress.

she had a very active career even at 35 and was still getting booked and crowned as one of the highest paying super models. she retired for her family, not because her job prospects were decreasing. maybe brady could do what all the other NFL players do when he retires. good thing those players are more self aware and actually care about their families, unlike brady.

She didn't retire, she still carried on but was getting less offers as her career was winding down due to her advanced age. Most NFL players retire broke, with multiple kids to multiple women. Just because Brady continues to work doesn't make him an absent father, he only works 40 hrs per week and two full months of in the years, and if Gisele is saying that she's a hypocrite because she herself has continued to work up until the present. Truth is more likely that Gisele is bored in her life and blames Brady for her problems and is using the publicity to try to relaunch her career. Gisele has likely contacted a divorce attorney who has advised her its best to divorce Brady while he's still working for the child custody, alimony and child support payments. Otherwise it may have turned out that if Gisele returned to work while Brady had retired that would mean that Brady as the primary carer of the children and Gisele the higher earner well he would get full child custody, child support and alimony from her.

He's addicted to football and probably sick of her. She likely has had nannies to help with the kids and she wants to be single again anyway. He should've stayed retired, but some relationships run their course.

Without football they probably figured out that they really don't even like spending their time together anymore.

This whole situation is extremely sad. My heart breaks for her and the children. This was so unnecessary and it was entirely avoidable. All he had to do was retire after he won Super Bowl LV. He was on top of the world! He had it all!! He had succeeded! He won! Now was the time to set that life aside and devote his time to his family.

But no. His stubbornness and pride would not allow him to do that.

He literally played in the NFL for 22 years prior to his retirement announcement. That’s about a decade long than most NFL players. He put in the time and effort for football. He’s literally 45 years old. When will he put in the time or effort for his kids? Or do they not matter?

As long as he can, and with the way he’s playing this year I’d guess it’s probably his last.
He doesn’t play every day, he’s cut back on his practice time and he has the whole off season. I’d bet he has more free time than most normal guys do and has made a fortune doing it

Do you know they don’t see their families for majority of the year? She gave up her modeling career so she could do what’s best for the family and that was to be involved in their childrens’ lives. He is 45. He is way past NFL average retirement age and he’s playing horribly might I add. You must not have kids if you think that having an absentee father for 9 out of 12 months of the year is going to be any different than your parents divorcing. i personally don’t have kids but i’m a daddy’s girl. dad is the reason why i’m so passionate about football and love it so much. talked to my dad about this situation and he said that tom brady is an embarrassment as a man. my father works so hard for his kids and realizes that if you have family you have nothing. i’m so grateful to have a father that genuinely cares about his kids and does everything to be involved in our lives. even prouder that he’s not excusing brady’s poor behavior or the behavior the hundreds of thousands of men who have children, are not involved in their kids’ lives, and put all the work on the mothers.

But regardless, as I've already said twice, Gisele is not the only selfish one here. But the harm to the children will be much greater if they divorce than the harm they would get from him working another year. Ultimately, Gisele's decision to divorce Tom will be far more harmful to their children in the long run than anything Tom has done. That's the bottom line in all of this. Both are being selfish, but saying Gisele's choice is in the interest of the children is naïve at best.

Tom Brady a deadbeat father? LMAO. You truly have no idea what you're talking about. Merriam Webster's definition of a deadbeat father is "a father who owes money to his former wife to help raise their children but does not pay it", which obviously doesn't apply to Tom Brady.

And for the fourth time, I will call out Tom for what he is guilty of, which is being less present than some fathers. But it's actually not that different than many other fathers who work hard. NFL players travel a lot but they don't work longer hours than most dads, and they actually work fewer hours than many during the off season. You've made some false assumptions here in the interest of supporting your preconceived blame assignment.

But again, what Gisele has chosen to do is far worse for the children than Tom deciding to work one more season. The affects will be harmful and lasting for the kids. That's what divorce does to kids.

In the end, what Gisele is doing is what so many women do. Half of marriages end in divorce, almost 80% of those divorces are initiated by women, and the #1 reason for divorce is lack of commitment. It's a very selfish choice in her part, and it is the kids who will pay the steepest price for it.

As I said in the beginning, both are guilty of being selfish, and neither is doing what is best for their children.
