What would happened if someone who's never seen any of the Star Warses decided to watch them in numerical order, rather than the order they were made?

They'd be tempted to stop before it got good- and I suspect a lot of them WOULD, too.

Ultimately, all true art comes from demons. Not literal demons, usually, but they're no less real for that. If the artist is lucky, the demons go away- but if the audience is lucky, they don't. When an artist finds success, they often lose the edge that drove their work to excellence- they wind up making softer stuff to widen appeal, or make it palatable to their kids. Or they wind up SO powerful and respected that everyone's afraid to tell them "No". Or both.

One of the first things we see Han Solo do is blow away a mafia debt collector and toss the bartender a coin and a quip. That is NOT a creation of a healthy, well-adjusted person; at least when it's someone who's supposed to be a hero.

The Phantom Menace doesn't suffer only from an annoying ambiguous title; it's literally a kid's movie set in the Star Wars universe. The ludicrous Jar-Jar slapstick that looks like it came from a Three Stooges skit distracts horribly from the tone, despite the fact that Jar-Jar's one of the most unambiguously heroic characters in the whole saga (albeit one who's grossly incompetent and teeth-clenchingly annoying). Darth Maul, the prequel's Boba Fett, was similarly out of place, and relied FAR too much on "seeming ominous" and "cool silence" to have any real meaning as a character (you want revenge on the Jedi? Okay- for what? What did they DO? You look scary, sure, but who ARE you?

Attack of the Clones had its interesting part (the Obi-Wan detective subplot) underdeveloped and, in retrospectives, ignored; the fact that it was the first time in the saga we saw a non-force user go up against a Jedi (and not just ANY Jedi, but Obi-Wan himself) and not only hold his own, but win (since his objective was escaping, not killing him). It also showed Obi-Wan fighting without his lightsaber, showing that the Jedi are more than just their weapons, AND Jango fighting without his, so it wasn't a "you only beat me because I was unarmed" situation. But no, all that gets shoved to the side to hammer in a stupid romantic subplot. Yes, it was a plot-critical (and even saga-critical) subplot, but that doesn't make it any less stupid.

Despite that, his turn in Revenge of the Sith (it'd still be nice to know what they wanted revenge FOR; three movies in and we still haven't been told what the history between these factions is) still seems rushed. While the acting far improved from the earlier two, the writing took a hit- part of that Anakin's feelings of rejection don't really have much of an outlet, since he's in a position where he feels he can't trust anyone, but that's not really SHOWN. Also, while the corruption of the Jedi had been demonstrated (decently, if not well) that of the Republic itself was missing- there was never any indication of WHY the Separatists were supposed to be the bad guys, other than who their leaders were. Developing that more would've lead to a better depiction of the Greek tragedy the prequels were trying to be. I should probably read the novelization; it could've (I'm not saying it DID, but that media is better suited for showing inward reflection) shown that much better. And Obi-Wan's decision to simply leave a dying Vader on Mustafar, rather than kill or capture him, makes no sense whatsoever; if he's too dangerous to keep in captivity, finish him off- it's not at all like a Jedi to leave a defeated opponent to die an agonizing death if it's that slow.

The OT is a universal hero's journey; the prequels are specific to Anakin, who you won't understand the importance of if you've never seen the originals.

Seeing Star Wars in chronological order would certainly be seeing the series in a different point of view.
