Do you mean Net Worth or income? I think if your income is over $95,000 you're in the top 1%. But net worth is harder to measure. My dad knew a dish washer 40 years ago who had purchased 2 houses with his income. 40 years later, those houses could be worth over $6,000,000 cause when we first came to Canada, a home could be purchased for $10,000 and now the same house could sell for over $1,000,000. My dad paid $400,000 for our home 18 years ago and now it's worth over $2,200,000. Our investment property is also worth $200,000 then what we paid for it 15 years ago. The other one is worth $300,000 then what we paid for it 2 years ago.

The 1% is really nothing to do with money, it refers to people in power and yes, ok, they are the people who have money but one does not automatically come with the other.
