Do you think the music of the 70's-80's is better than the current music we have? I listen to the older music on SiriusXM Radio. Non-stop music of the stuff I like. All the new music sounds alike to me. What old groups do you like?
- 2.5K opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic.
+1 yYes, I remember both of them but I'm trying to forget!
Pretty much ANY music is better than the shit they have today!!
The bulk of the `70's and SOME early `80's sucked, big time!! The stuff from the new wave era `77 to about `86) was great!! Then rap (someone left the C off of THAT word!) showed up in `85 and music started turning to shit, again!!
Chicago stopped being cool around the 7th or 8th album. They started wanking out by the 5th. Air Supply was NEVER cool!! They're practically the kings of Oldies From Hell!!
Which old groups do I like? Darlin;', I've got over 62,000 records in my collection spanning the last 120-some years!! How many hours you got?08 Reply- +1 y
I don't think even you have enough time to listen to half of them before St. Peter calls. If an album lasts an hour that is 62,000 hours, or 7 years of non-stop listening, with no breaks, sleep, or potty breaks.

Most albums run about 35:00. I have a lot more 45's than albums. Most of those only run about 5:00. I used to have about 4000 78's, too. Thanks to my ex-sisters, I lost at least 2000 3 years ago.
- +1 y
I remember when people used 78's as targets for skeet shooting.
- +1 y
Or Frisbees or melt them down to make clocks or bowls, etc., or, dad said he and his friends used to break them up and file them into the size of nickles and quarters to use as slugs in pinball machines. That's kinda like ripping off your kid's fingernail to use as a guitar pick.
- +1 y
Now THAT I've not heard before. Seems like a lot of work to play pinball.
- +1 y
It was during the depression and they didn't have money.
- +1 y
But that was in the 20's. I know you are not quite that old. Did the pinball machines back then take money to play?
- +1 y
They probably took a nickel. Dad lived through the depression.

i listen more to the message in the song, it's energy, to decide if I like it and play it in my head. a lot of it is negative, some of of it is mind poison that I turned off... the Eagles have a lot of mind poison, my fav band Boston... has some fantastic... mind poison. some has a good message.
music today not so much, but... I like some Gaga. depends.
I like music without words anymore, reduces mind cluttler and programming. chinese music can be good.

+1 yI got some silver hair that I've developed since turning 28, so I should count as old lol.
Best eras are from the 60s to early 2000s for me.
Mamas and the Papas, The Monkees, The Hollies, Simon and Garfunkel, Scott McKenzie, Fleetwood Mac, Neil Diamond, Elton John, Taco, KLF, I can keep going.
a lot of music nowadays just sound too similar to each other.

KLF? I thought it was KFC?

KLF is a group I mainly heard in the 90s. My most favorite songs from them are 3AM and Justified and Ancient featuring Tammy Wynette.
4.9K opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic. Music from the 60s, 70s and some 80s is far superior to anything released today, and I wasn't born till 1989. You don't need to be older, you just need ears.

I don't remember them but I do prefer the music i grew up with. Nothing wrong with today's music; just a preference.
10 Reply1.2K opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic. I definitely remember those songs. They're good. You obviously like romance. 😊
The advent of amazing music was during the 60s. Lyrics evolved. Electric instruments and better recording/production techniques pushed music, itself, to places never before imagined. That progressed through the entire decade and well into the '70s.
It was a time of creativity and artistry; breaking boundaries.
So much great music was created, I couldn't begin to scratch the surface in naming all the great artists, let alone songs.00 Reply- 303 opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic.
+1 yI remember both. Air Supply pretty much sucked. Chicago had some decent songs, but not that one. Both of those songs are too wimpy. I'm not a hard rocker or into punk or anything, but those songs just go too far the other direction.
Chicago was a different type of band. They didn't fit any of the molds, but were mostly played on album oriented rock stations.
Air Supply is a big no. Anyone who was even 1% cool wouldn't be caught dead listening to that. But then that was 1979, the dark ages of modern music, so you can't expect much.

Yea that's more like I used to listen to. Still do, but not nearly as much as before. I actually listen to newer music, along with much older music going back 80-100 years.
I'm not like some people who get stuck with a certain era of music. I know people who have been listening to the same music for 50 years. I don't know how they do it without getting totally burned out on it. I still like the music I grew up with, but I need more variety.
559 opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic. Oh please, how about Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Zz Top, to name a few.
Try classic Vynal, Classic Rewind, 60s gold, 50s music.
Air Supply, really?
Toss in the bubble gum bands and now you have a real party starter.
Don't forget disco!
Yes I am that old and have lived through it all.
Imagine a nice summers night, a lake cottage, candles lit, lots of beer, good friends, hot chicks and you put on Pink Floyd's The Wall album for the very first time.
I can still remember that night like it was yesterday.
The whole world seemed to stop in its tracks, nothing else seemed to matter.
That was music, and it still is.
I still like Chicago, even the early stuff when they were CTA.
David Clayton Thomas when he was in Blood Sweat and Tears.
Everyone enjoys different artists, Air Supply sold a lot of albums.
So enjoy what you like.

I am an '80s baby but grew up in the 90s, and I absolutely appreciate the older music much more than what is out there now. Not all of today's music is bad and I have some favorites, but the older stuff will always have a far better sound and melody, and more of the artist's heart in it.
One of my favorites:

+1 yIncredible !! Just half an hour back, a song came up and I was tellijg my wife we should go to their show if they ever come to our town. I missed it a couple of years back when they were in Miami area.
I never understood one thing though. Was one of them acting as the woman in the duo? That's how all their songs sounded.

+1 yThose came out years before I was born. My mom loved Air Supply. Chicago, too, although my dad preferred the earlier songs from when Terry Kath was still alive. I agreed with my dad. Most of what I listen to tends to be harder than these, but I really love that, unlike much of what is released today, those people could actually sing without relying on pitch correction software.

Without a doubt the music of the 70's-80's are better than the vast majority of what's around today, as there are so many post production tools available that they can make someone who has to carry a tune in a bucket sound fantastic.
00 Reply6.5K opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic. I remember Air Supply. A woman I used to work with was related to a high level Mafia guy. His daughter got married and he got Air supply to play at the wedding.

But regarding the comparative quality of the music, there is a lot of fine music still being produced to this day but the majority of it doesn't find it's way onto the radio or much less into the charts.
