Maybe. What could happen is that the racist sjws who hates white people, the type who usually goes "who cares, its fictional" would care a whole lot and label you a racist and attack you if you make the main character white. You see, race swapping is only ok to them when done to white people.

Well, your movie is not being made by complaining about the right-wing, anti-woke or Christians, so perhaps spend less time complaining about those groups unless you decided to pander to them?

My story is based on extremely powerful African gods, that's enough for Christians to piss off. Not only that, but there's also the mental juggling to call anything woke. And that's why I'm going to make all the characters black. I'm sure that if I include white people I'll have to make them more important than the gods and not even think about making a white character as a villain, because that's woke for the rightists.

If you don’t care about diversity, you can make a point of mentioning that in your PR, that you don’t intend to pander to the sjws who complains about how important diversity in stories are. If you do that, my may lessen the complaints from good right leaning people who deserves to be pandered to.
And if you do care about diversity, then turning some of the good guys white certainly won’t do any more harm than the devs of God of war turning Angrboda black.

If you don’t care about diversity, make it a PR point to mention you don’t want to pander to sjws. (The people you should ask these questions about, not anti-woke people)

If you care about diversity, make sure some of the good guys are not black.
Can also recomend you making your female main character Asian and hot.
