Gamer Question?

I have not played a video game in many years but have heard some great hype about some of the current era "gamers" I'm looking to see if anyone has any advice or recommendations on what games are best to get started with, preferably games where you can play against or with other humans or friends lol

My advice is be prepared to be very time poor if you want to get into newer videogames.

It isn't like back in the day where you buy a game, stick it in the machine and start playing, no. Now, you buy a game more likely from on the line than a physical copy, you then wait for it download in some cases 100s of gigabytes worth of data for what can go up to 3 hours. Once it has finished downloading, you have to wait just as long for your machine to install the game (and it will be the same if you buy a physical copy, the machine will download the game from the disk). After it finally installs, you will be told that there is a patch available that must be downloaded and installed before you can play it. This can be another hour of time wasting.

By the way, this is also after doing the same thing to set up the console itself if you just bought it. Forget playing a game the day you buy it. That time is downloading and installing. You will play it next weekend if you have time. When you finally get the the point where you can actually play the game, you will get to a certain point and realise that you actually have to pay even more to "unlock" certain features which you will again have to wait for to download and install.

Destiny 2 is pretty good. It's even free to play to an extent.

State of Decay 2 is a solid open world zombie survival with 4 player coop.

Me and my group play World of Warships religiously.

Any of the Forza games are a good racer.

The Fallout games, Skyrim, and Starfield are all pretty solid as well.

I’m not super up to date with current games, as I stick to my favourites and don’t usually try out new games, but killing floor 2 is definitely a favourite. You can play against AI, friends or strangers. It’s a first person shooter and you’re on a team, killing waves of monsters etc. You get to pick your “class” aka you can be a field medic, gunslinger, berserker, and many other options. All have their own perks. Personally I enjoy field medic most, so that I can help my team to survive.
