The typical sitcom set up of “the ball and chain” wife reaction is definitely something worth noting in the history of media. The Honeymooners repeatedly had the male lead making playful threats to hit his wife, I love Lucy was slightly better but Lucy was definitely often shown as more of a burden than a blessing to her family and friends, then you have The Addams family sitcom that turned the trope on its head by having the couple be completely obsessed with each other in direct conflict with that. That decision influenced so much of how Morticia and Gomez and the rest of the family developed but that choice for the sitcom made a huge difference. Tbh if they had made it so Al was more openly affectionate with his wife, they would have had a much healthier marriage on screen rather than the dysfunctional example made for comedy
