Netflix is mailing out the last DVD today. Do you still rent DVDs? ?

I had a membership to this up until a couple of years ago. I have a vacation house and do not have cable so I used to have DVDs sent to me there and had a DVD player. I have not used the place since covid but if I did I would probably still have a membership to DVD. com.

It always was cool to find a new movie in the mailbox

I love those red envelopes. My wife and I have seen just over 1600 of those movies.
I think we started getting them 12 or 15 years ago when my sister gave us a 1 yr subscription for Christmas one year. At some point, I upgraded it from one to two at a time.

We've seen some really wonderful films by chance - films that we never heard of or that we wouldn't have gone to a theater to see.

There were times when we could watch an average of three movies a week because the turn around time was really fast. But a few years ago, the turn around time slowed down a lot. I don't know if that was related to changes in the USPS.

We are still signed up.
I signed up for streaming about 5 years ago so that I could watch stuff when I am alone. Their selection on streaming is terrible and has gotten way, way worse.

I'm going to dump Netflix but don't know who to go with based on my/our taste in films. I would like to be able to see new releases as well as older films going all the way back to 1930.

I have a house near the ocean and I do not have cable so I used to join in May and cancel it on October. I had the two at a time plan. We provalvt watched 3 or 4 movies a week. There were a lot of movies out there ths tI had never seen. I used to do research on the internet and add them to the queue. I stopped the subscription during covid.

Actually, I never did rent DVD's. I only bought them if I wanted them.

In fact, still do. I have little use for all the new technologies and prefer what has proven to work. As Ellen Glasgow said, "All change is not progress as all movement is not forward."

What we had - and still do - works and I am completely content using my DVD player. In addition, there is a store near me that still sells all sorts of DVDs on all sorts of subjects, including movies, documentaries and such.

Good enough. It has worked this long. I see no reason to get rid of it.

I did years and years ago not since the subscription came out. I don't even have a DVD player. Everything I watch is on subscriptions it's just easier for me that way lol

I'm a city boy, so I stream stuff. My cousin had boxes and boxes of DVD's and CD's.

I brought my computer over and ripped them all and put them on a tiny external hard drive. We then loaded up my truck with the boxes of discs and gave them to a poor family at Christmas. Boy, you should have seen the looks on those rug rats' faces when we pulled up. They truly hit the mother load.

I remember Columbia House of Records. You could pick OT 5 albums for a dime. Then they would make you buy a couple of records every month and hose you on the price.

I have a library of DVDs that I've purchased over the years, but I haven't rented one in over a decade. I think the last DVD I rented was at one of those machines you find outside supermarkets, and that was a long time ago.

I have not had a DVD. com membership since covid started. I remember Blockbuster Video. We had a big one in town. It is now a big tire store.

I've never been into renting DVDs. I would stream the movies, and if I really liked them I would buy the DVD. I kind of like owning DVDs so I can just grab one off the shelf if I want to watch it.

I never personally rented DVDs from a video store, as far as I remember, I mostly buy them. Back in the day I rented VHS tapes, the last time maybe in 1999? All video rental stores I have ever been to have closed over the last ten years.

I used to get movies that I never got around to watching the first time around. Netflix and other streaming services are very limited in their selections.

I used to govto redbox too. They removed it from the local supermarket.

I miss the old video stores most. Rentals were $1 and you returned them them following day. It made sense and it was affordable fun.

Redbox is all over the place. I Googled it and without without selecting it the Google screen showed local locations. Three within walking distance. Plus some stores have video rental machines that are not Redbox. Extremely easy to get rental DVDs.

I use to open my account every summer and had DVDs sent rightvto my summer home. I had the 2 at a time plan. It had a 3 to 4 day turnaround time it was ten bucks a month I think.

Netflix started out as a DVD mailing service. When the streaming platform got big they changed the name to DVD. com.
