I don't remember. A few early books were Mysterious Island by Jules Verne, a biography about a native war chief named Little Turtle, and an autobiography about a general in WW2 - I don't remember his name. Around that same time I had gone through most of my dad's drafting book. I loved drafting and that was one of my favorite books.

None of those were the first books I read, just the earliest "real" books I remember. (not counting "Dick, Jane and Sally" type learner books)

My first chapter book was "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing" by Judy Blume. Our teacher in school read the first half of the book and then said "if you want to know how it ends, there are copies in the library." It was cleaver and hooked me on a lifetime of reading.

Officially some children's book, I don't remember. But the first proper book I read was, "Journey to the Center of the Earth", in third grade. My teacher saw how engaged I was in it and when he realized I wouldn't finish it before summer vacation, he actually gifted it to me. Probably had a lot of respect, as the average third grader probably doesn't usually get into Jules Verne.

I have no idea. I remember some Pokey Puppy books and Where the Wild Things Are. Were they the first? I'm not sure. I can't remember back that far.

Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn were some of the first novels I read for school.

I can't remember. I was a total bookworm as a child. Not only that, but I read 100s of books by the time I was a teenager.

It was either the Amelia Bedelia series or the Junie B. Jones series, I remember going over those books a lot after I learned how to read.

It was a little golden book. It was about a character based Rootie Kazootie. My cousin got rid of all those books when he sold the family vacation house.

Brer Rabbit Book by Enid Blyton

I'd just learned to read and the stories were just the right length for me to read in one sitting.

    It's probably racist now.
