It's Neil Peart. Any serious drumming aficionado knows it's Neil.

I think this live version of "Xanadu" from 1977 in which, not only does Neil do the drumming, but he does a myriad of other percussion as well. 1977 was the year Rush released "A Farewell to Kings" and, according to the Wikipedia article for that album "... A Farewell to Kings features Peart playing orchestra bells, tubular bells, chimes, and other percussion".

HOWEVER, I will say that Scott Rockenfield formerly of Queensrÿche was excellent too. Watch his work from August 1984 when Queensrÿche visited Tokyo just before their first album came out.

Then again Alice Cooper says a lot of things, doesn't he? Yes, Keith Moon was very good. John Bonham was very overrated. His drumming adversely affects Black Dog.

Those are all amazing. Top notch. I've seen all of them live and freaking love them all.

A some of my other favorites are Bobby Caldwell, Alan White, and Ian Paice.
Ed Cassidy with Spirit put on the most amazing drum solos.
There are many more.
Hal Blaine, studio drummer for the Wrecking Crew may have been the most technically superior. He was one with a drum kit and could play anything.

It's impossible to pick the best, though. That's like trying to pick the best band. When you are top notch, nobody is better and it all comes down to preference.

So I'm sorry I couldn't pick one.
