Ethan Hunt. Hands down, no questions asked.
Ethan Hunt was, according to Wikipedia (or the Mission: Impossible wiki), an Army Ranger with combat experience in the Gulf War. He has also fought and beaten men who are up to 20 years younger than he is, i. e., August Walker in Fallout. Hunt is clearly tried, tested, and proven.
He's also more intelligent, disciplined, focused, and resourceful. For crying out loud, the man has spent half the Mission: Impossible franchise outrunning and outsmarting the people who have owned and trained him for all this time. He's able to do more with less. Plus, he's clearly a master of disguise. He really doesn't even need a disguise though.
James Bond always seems to have special gadgets on him that he never had used before or ever will use again. Convenience is the name of the game for him. Plus, throw a beautiful woman and some brandy at him and he's practically useless.
Hunt runs laps around Bond.
I think they'd be so equally matched, they would declare it a draw and go on to make many more successful movies on their own!
It would be interesting to see a crossover, especially since Hunt has worked with MI6 a good amount recently.
I've toyed with that idea in my head for a while. I think an MI 007 crossover would be really cool. Someone needs to send an e-mail to Hollywood.
I'd love to see that too, but there would be loads of arguments as to who would have top billing!
Bill them next to each other
You think Tom Cruise will want to share top billing with a guy who's only previous role was 'kick ass?'
I never realized until recently how much actors care about top billing
I remember reading many years ago Tony Curtis and Roger Moore appeared in a programme called The Persuaders. Both were at the height of their fame, and neither would yield when it came to billing. Ironically seeing as what we are talking about, it flopped because the time it was aired was the same as the new series of Mission Impossible!!!
How about that for a link.. Seeing as Roger Moore was Bond too?
So what did production end up doing?
It was cancelled after one season.
@KostasKouvalis. I completely missed the point of your question lol sorry about that. They finally agreed to share the billing so both their names would appear on screen together.

Let's do the math. The first Bond novel, Casino Royale, was published in 1953. Let's say Bond was 23 at the time, which honestly I think is on the young side, but let's assume he was born in 1930. That means Bond would now be 94.
Any fight between the two would be elder abuse.
You're overthinking it. When has Bond ever aged? And while that may be, remember that the movie "Casino Royale" was set in modern times.
We're assuming both characters are the same as they are in the movies.
2nd because hunt trained in u. s.
What's that supposed to mean?
James Bond.
