So now that the total eclipse has been and gone to those of you who actually got to see it what are your final considerations?

In Switzerland it was only partial. And the next total eclipse won't be seen here till 2081. But there was one in 1999 and I saw that. Back then as a kid I thought the whole thing was a bit overhyped, but now I'm glad I saw it :P

I don't have the best memory of it because I remember things the best that were exciting or emotional made some impact on me but this didn't that much. I remember those glasses and the image I saw when I looked up. I think I also looked a bit without the glasses. I thought it was stupid if the sun is covered up I should be able to look at it, and through the glasses it wasn't that amazing.

If you know it's just the moon traveling between the sun and the earth it's not a huge deal. Without the religious hysteria or feeling like the world is going to end it's just a astronomical phenomenon that happens sometimes.

now that we survived the end of the world, we have proof prayer works.

but we better pray again the next 4 total eclipses in the coming 5 years.

Both my dad and I used extremely tinted and scientifically protected shades to view the eclipse and both of us had eye pain when we were done viewing the eclipse. Also we viewed it only a short time since all 3 of us only used one pair that we shared one after another. It was a cloudy day too so if it wasn't for the cloud, it could have been worse.

Considerations of what?

I saw it; the sky was clear and the sun overhead. For me, it was tantamount to a religious experience. I am forever changed like I was when I experienced...

Hurricane Belle and, in particular, its eye in 1976.
Being outside on top of the World Trade Center in 1989.
The Northridge Earthquake in 1994.
The Grand Canyon and Meteor Crater in 1994.
Paris in 2007.
The flooding from Hurricane Irene in 2011.

The Grand Canyon and the earthquake and the eclipse were the most profound though.
My mind was blown by the canyon and the eclipse.
