If you have no clue what this is even then just keep moving, you having nothing to contribute to the conversation.
I only bring this up because while this is almost 30 years. later, it amazes me each time I hear a wrestling personality talk about it always seems to have thier personal bias. Also not everything is for the cameras. But in a business like wrestling where everything seems fair game. If the subject of something is juicy enough I can see why everyone involved would say, "why not promote it and we all make money off of it.
The point of what I'm saying is we all know what Kayfabe is. But in modern times where wrestling is a billion dollar business and not the territories of yesterday. Information travels fast. And so it seems as though kayfabe has multiple levels. Also in "sport" where there's so much theater involved it's not surprising to see so many wrestlers or just people in the business playing a (subtle) part at most if not all times.
What I'm asking is how much of the Montreal was real. And how much of it was theater. Do you think it was a long con? Or do you think it's just something that has evolved over time to be used as needed. Because I think it's the latter.
By the way I wouldn't call myself a big wrestling fan. I wasn't even watching wrestling during the Montreal Screwjob. So I welcome hard-core fans, and casual fans opinions on this.

Well it wasn’t a real shoot because everyone was in on it except for supposedly one person (Hitman Hart).
However and to answer the question, what I think is it was unnecessary. I take Hart’s side in that they could’ve just told him that’s what they wanted to do and he would’ve gone with it but instead they sent him up and disrespected him. Not cool.
Well that's kind of what I'm saying. Hart has been salty every since retiring. But like I watched his WWE: Legends segment the other day and it just dovetails into like a well written a story line. Like Bret was supposed to be betrayed, be angry fir it for about a year then come back, everyone hugs it out.😂
And yeah I get they can edit the segment however they want. But if Bret was truly angry you'd think he's be saying, "that's not it at all"! Unless he's being well paid to shut up.😂
This is why isay I feel like kayfabe is out in the open now. But it feels like there's multiple levels to it. And you're not ever fully sure where kayfabe ends and real life begins. Because everyone, every individual wrestler has an opinion and viewpoint. So ask a 100 wrestlers what happened you'll get a 100 differing views.
It was real look at the expression on the heartbreak kid when they rang the bell he was totally surprised
It could be that he was just not clued into it. Shawn claims he knew about it.
