Your favorite Disney Animated movie from the Revival era part 1?

The Disney Revival refers to an era beginning in 2009 with the release of The Princess and the Frog and ending in 2022 with the release of Strange World. during which Walt Disney Animation Studios returned to making successful animated feature films. There are 13 films overall so we will start with the first 7.

Something else noticeable about this era is after princess and the frog and winnie the pooh Disney would officially be done with traditional 2d animation from then on.

In my opinion, this is clearly a tossup between Princess and the Frog, and Rapunzel. PatF's 2D animation, excellent villain performance, solid story arc, unique music and setting were great, and it boggles me that Disney utterly failed to capitalize on this one in every way imaginable, including the disastrous retheming of Splash Mountain at their parks. Meanwhile Rapunzel was the last proper Disney princess movie, the only good 3D animated one, and they've been trying to replicate this one ever since. The only real criticism is that the inserted modernisms that have crippled everything they now make start to show up here.

Frozen was a hit when it came out, but it is definitely not viewed as favorably in retrospect. I think this is in large part because this is when Disney started pushing amoral messaging into their mainstream content, and in this case, Elsa was clearly meant to be the story's villain ("Let it go" is the villain song of that movie), but they made late stage changes to instead make her virtuous by victimhood, which is a massive departure.

Wreck it Ralph was at least pretty unique, but somewhat like Frozen, it has been tarnished by a terrible sequel that didn't need to exist.

I recall liking Big Hero 6 when it first came out, but I saw it a second time a few years ago and thought it didn't hold up at all. For some reason, Disney keeps trying to use this one as a vessel for political activism too, which isn't doing it any favors.

Zootopia had some clever adult humor and references in it, so I'd give it decent marks.

Never saw Winne the Pooh or even cared about it as a kid, so no comment.

I can't decide between Winnie the Pooh, because I have always been such a fan of A. A. Milne and love all of the Disney Pooh movies. But then, I also love most of the old fairy tales and Tangled was such a cute adaptation.

Well did you watch the 2011 winnie the pooh specifically? it was basically supposed to be a reboot but it failed because they made the dumb decision to release it the same weekend as the last harry potter movie lol. so not a lot of people saw it.

Frozen just because of that part where she's like "do you wanna build a snowman?" It gets me everytime. Especially when she says, "we used to be best buddies and now we're not."

As much as I love Wreck-it Ralph, Zootopia is just too good. So, I'm going with Zootopia. 😄
