I don't know I would normally think it’s stupid but I want to think on it and it pulls some big thoughts out of me.
Id first just state them as concepts
•Replacement
•Resolve
The duct tape is a man made artificial material that seems to replace the work of a tree 🌴 for this banana 🍌 in keeping it off the ground, but
it also seems to be an attempt to fix a problem cause usually duct tape is used to fix problems even in just short term. It’s not a symbol of replacing nature with man made things and the thought mankind doesn’t need nature or all components of nature because they can be “god”
but it can be seen as trying to solve the lack and absence of what’s needed for the banana. The other variable or part of the equation.
A banana is to tree as a lion cub is to a lion. One needs the other and the links ripple effect its way towards other things.
It seems like a bandaid on a wound 🩹
it’s this attempt to fix something in a way that we don’t have full expertise to fix. Even the colorings of the banana and the awkwardness show that this is no legitimate resolution which brings a sense of sadness. The banana is molding/ aging and it seems entirely unnatural being held up and seen along with artificial and man produced duct tape.
When I seen it, it caused me to be sad and very alert to it. It drew my attention. Yes, I could make a big deal of nothing. But this can be said about anything. We can make a big deal about all sorts of things and we can also massively overlook or make light of things. Literally all sorts. It’s nice to have balance and flexibility. It’s nice to be equally versatile and switch back and forth from one to the other on command.
I MAY or may not have seen this before and did think it was dumb back then, or I just seen another form of “art” with already made things like a fruit.
It did seem lame because the artist didn’t put much work into anything/it and didn’t put any efforts or dramatic sense of style, but technically nature can be viewed as art and art forms. Bananas and other fruits can be. They have color, vibrance, and geometric qualities. They have texture. And this banana was styled to remain in that position 🤷♀️ so it technically is art. Just rapid art and nothing essentially was CREATED.
It being real art or its value is debatable. It’s not very pleasing but some thoughts can be gathered or expressed by it, as cheap that may or may not seem. I wouldn’t pay for this at all, but I’d enjoy seeing it. WITH the exception it’s not mainstream. If I only viewed taped fruit to walls and other taped objects, I’d be a little disappointed. I hope Art will always keep itself diverse enough.
I think it’ could be conceptual art? I don't know if that’s a thing but it can convey concept- very little/few concepts though. It really just isn’t art that conveys emotions much. I suppose it could it is was viewed more in depth. If somehow the artist viewed themselves as the banana or the tape or even the wall. It could represent how the artist feels about their own foot print in the art world. Having brain lag and feeling like just taping something to something cause they feel nothing or numb. 🤷♀️ doubting their art sense or just doubting themselves.
Other than this only so much can be grasped from only three real view points here. 1-banana 2- tape 3- wall
🤷♀️
But no I wouldn’t pay any price for that.
Nothing about it is visually appealing symmetrical or complimentary… 🤔
The piece represents societies repression of the male genitalia and hence men as a whole. The banana bulges from the tape yearning to be free yet remains out of reach to those who want it. The tape has multiple meanings, it represents men being gagged and the loss of free speech as well as how men are expected to suppress their sexual urges.
The banana of course rots on the wall representing wasted talent and opportunities. Duct tape is often used to silence rape victims and here it's used to good effect to remind us of that. A piece that benefits from slow looking.
Are you familiar with Lou Reed album that has a banana w/o the duct tape as its only album art
Not familiar with that
I liked all this and it was funny but it could also be taken seriously on some points. More can be added as well, but I would just have to disagree with the idea of suppressing a man and his genitalia as suppressing him. I don’t think men should be defined or valued/weighed in merit based on their genitals lol I think what they can create and do to help society and themselves and those they care for is much more valuable and rewarding. Being valued on genitalia alone seems a bit barbaric, primitive, primeval, medieval and animalistic. But maybe that’s just me. Both anatomies are great but I don’t think all value should be placed on that alone.
As a classical oil painter this just makes my physically ill as a artist.
And yes I do realize that I'm am kinda being an art snob but I'm ok with that. Because when I have to spend months if not a year painstakingly creating an oil painting from scratch I can have no respect for something that took 30 seconds or less that had no creativity, effort or care put into it.
It's an actual tragedy that there are artists out there who skills are so great that they can create photorealistic paintings that look virtually no different then a photograph from a camera and put a lot of effort, care and creativity into their art yet they get no coverage no attention and their skills go unnoticed.
And then you have this thing a banana taped to a wall something that a 5 year old child could do sold for 6.2 million dollars /= that gets articles written about it.
The art world needs a hard reset.
@Phoenix98 Very well said.
@KittyKat90210 Thank you.
@Phoenix98 My uncle was a professional oil painter (a realist) as well. It took him a long time to be properly recognized but now has works hanging in important galleries including the National Portrait Gallery / Smithsonian. He used to call things like this a fraud because it doesn't meet the definition of art, yet people spend an obscene amount of money on it.
@KittyKat90210 Good for him glad he made it and yes it is fraud I agree with him.
The art gets replaced for ‘maintenance’, it is a new banana & new duct tape every single time so clearly it isn’t a $6.2 million piece worth having…. The “artist” was a comedian who made it as satire to the stupid auction price predictions on art which in itself became a serious piece once it broke its own record estimated price at auction.
My advice: Buy a duct tape and a banana then maintain it yourself, you just made a statement piece to be more proud of than this sh*t.
Buying a duct-taped banana for $6.2 million seems like quite an expense! Art can be subjective and is often defined by its ability to provoke thought or challenge perceptions. In this case, the banana symbolizes the temporary and absurd aspects of art. The value lies in the concept and the artist's statement, rather than the materials. Art can be anything that elicits a reaction or emotion. 🍌
That's a pretty verbose opinion from an AI bot

art is about making people feel things, not how simple or complex the process is
True. And paying 6.2 million dollars for a banana and a piece of duct tape must make you feel like a colossal idiot. So I guess that means it's art!
Good way to launder money.
People that have money shouldn’t have money, if they are buying dumb shit like this for that much money , it reminds me of that kid that was making finger paintings and the parents were selling them for a shit ton of money , and stupid people were buying them , the kid had no fucking clue what she was finger painting and dumb asses were amazed by it , the parents’ were smart but the buyers weren’t whatsoever.
I love this piece.
I love that he is insulting the very people that are paying to possess it.
It's so brilliant.
It's actually performance art meets installation in a way.
It has also fulfilled the purpose of art while be so anti art vis a vis a total absence of technique or visible process
It is no Kehinde Wiley portrait, which are exceptional, but it has its place.
Whoever bought it has more money than brains, especially if they plan on eating it. I hope they bought it for charity reasons.
I would only buy a banana for cents just like it is priced in every ordinary market.
There is nothing extraordinary about this banana. Only thing its irritating that you have to undo the tape to get it off the wall. So I would actually pay less for it than an ordinary banana because I have to do more work to eat it.
It's not, it's a way to dispose of money.
Goes to show how out of whack the world is...
and we have hard working farmers that can't make a living...
I do have an idea now... tape an orange to the wall... value?
I'm helping a friend he's releasing a collection of NFTs for 1000 Sol or $2,550 each 💰
Put me down all u want for being a cam girl, I got 1.165 Bitcoin from it
By the way yes, NFTs are dumb 🤣
Money laundering.
*To read with a snobbish British accent that rolls Rs* I'll be more than fine with paying obscene amounts of money on art when it goes back to looking like the hyper realism of the Renaissance.
Not a chance. But I would have paid for the SpaceX banana that flew on Starship flight 6. Too bad it got cooked when Ship burned up after landing. 😒
You and @strateguy632 remind me of each other and that other guy. Light bulb guy.
If I can replicate it at home in under 1 minute then no. Some people would steal that banana if they could actually. Groceries are expensive as heck rn if that's the message it's trying to say then nice I guess.
Hell, if this can sell for $6.2 million then all I have to do is glue just an empty Coca Cola can to canvas and some bored rich person will give me a quarter of their net worth for it.
Did the 'Amazing Athiest' make this art piece?
He's a YouTuber that stuck a banana in his butt.
Like most satire, a lot of people take it too seriously to understand that it’s satire, and so treat it seriously.
It just proves the statement that some people have more money than sense.
That’s basically a donation to the art museum if anything because nobody’s gonna buy that for any other reason
No. I can get duct tape and bananas for much cheaper at the local Walmart.
But then, I am a bargain shopper. 🤷♀️
I'd just eat it when no one looks. Why wasting money?
If it comes to that, I might offer to replace the banana?
Unless it is a fake banana that looks real, definitely not because it will rot.
I read about that and no I wouldn't. Stupid af.
More evidence that some people have too much money.
I always figure that anything I could do (like duct-tape a banana to a wall), isn't art.
As an artist, I can feel my soul violently vomiting itself
When wealthy people have so much money, that they don't care about expending 6.2 million USD.
I wish I had their problems.
If I buy the whole banana forb, will I get a volume discount?
That’s gonna be the biggest joke ever known to mankind who buys a banana and duck tapes it then sells it for all that money that’s insane. Anybody can do that
no it makes no sense why anyone would buy this , obviously its nothing at all
No, I'm not a stupid rich person who buys things just because I can, even if I was rich I wouldn't buy a duct taped banana.
I can just get me some bananas and tape and make a 62 million art piece.
What this funny as hell,
hell no I got bunch of bananas every where
😅😆
At this point. It's leagues better what AI can ever accomplish
Nope, even though if i have that money. I rather to help hungry people.
Hell no. Modern art is not art, it is garbage that rich people use to flaunt cash
Anything higher than 2.5 million is ridiculous. Please do your due diligence before throwing that kind of money around.
Art can be subjective, but this I would investigate for money laundering.
I would not buy that, but it is art. So is a fire hose wrapped around a shopping cart.
😄 r. o. f. l.
i dont know if i should get this or that microscoping LV bag
Nope. Wouldn't pay even a penny for it.
What happens when the banana goes off?
Money laundering?
That would make sense or paying for protection.
@strateguy632 oh yeah, paying protection or a bribe makes a lot of sense too. They probably laugh at how silly they can make the "art" and not get the government to shut them down.
Someone's paying a nice bribe to someone else.
nope, I am not that stupid.
What the actual fuck?
How about a crucifix in a glass of pee?
@Dongie *spitting
thanks, @strateguy632. 😴
No ButbI'd love to see people bidding on it.
Stupidity at it's peak
Its all about the angles
I wouldn't pay a dollar for that nonsense
I wouldn't buy it for $3.
No cause could do that myself.
Most definitely not
Never again.
No lol
I don't think so
Money laundering
Pure stupidity.
Playboy
Hell no
This is crazy
