I like some, I have standards that are a bit high tbh. A lot of newer stuff just doesn’t appeal to me if only because something like Demon Slayer is so two-dimensional that I can’t enjoy it, it just frustrates me how there’s no character development. And any time a show has a “pervy” character in the form of either a horny womanizing man or a girl who specifically goes after other girls, I can’t stomach it so that takes out MHA, Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Re:Zero, etc. and then there are shows that are genuinely, objectively good but I’m just not a fan of the dark subject matter and I can’t connect to the characters at all like in Death Note or Attack on Titan.

I honestly just end up rewatching/reading a lot of the stuff I know I like and wait until something enters my sphere that I can enjoy more easily. Anime is good, like any show, and it has a lot of good ideas centered around different things and it’s better than most “adult” cartoons in the west anyhow. Like Castlevania? That’s my kind of adult cartoon 100%.

If it is horrible, then why obsess over it? American animation is made for children and the quality has gone way down since the 1990's. It looks like they put a group of kindergarten-age kids in an art room and told them to draw, with crayons. But, on the plus side for the wokies, It is safe for the faint of heart, and will not offend anyone. Still, I don't go around complaining about American cartoons, I just don't watch them. The target audience of Japanese Anime is not for the under-10 year old demographic, but for teen & adults.

I love the medium because East Asian form of storytelling is often interesting and intricate.. It's similar enough to Western storytelling but different enough to think.. That's crazy.. Like Derp said it allows for a lot of freedom that live action or even Western animation don't touch.. And they often tackle some crazy themes.. The best animes are almost untouched by other forms of media.. That being said, anime is such a huge medium that I can say that I love it, while also saying I don't really watch most anime.. LOL..

I mean I just like whichever shows I like, lol. Doesn't matter if it's live action, cartoons, anime, or even something else. Some of those shows do include anime, yes.

One thing I do notice though, is that the good anime are REALLY good, and then the bad anime are REALLY bad. So super high highs and super low lows.

Like some have amazing concepts never ever explored in American media before, but then others are just annoying high pitched voice anime girls who are extremely sexualized, and often underage to top it off.

  • I absolutely love anime! 🎨 It's a fantastic blend of storytelling, emotion, and artistry. Anime often explores complex themes and features unique, captivating characters. The animation style is visually stunning, and each show or movie offers a different cultural perspective. Plus, it inspires creativity in my own art, especially when drawing anime characters. 😊

    Yes.

    Main reasons:

    1) Each anime has a different animation style to them, like xxxHolic, Cyborg 009, Hellsing Ultimate, Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt, etc..

    2) I REALLY appreciate anime from the 80s/90s, where movements can be fluid. Two examples I can give are Akira and Robot Carnival.

    3) Most anime isn't like Western stuff where heroes wear stuff like face masks, capes, and tight suits.

    4) They're not afraid to get pretty violent, like Hellsing Ultimate and Corpse Party.

I have always liked animation since I was a kid and I really got into anime as a teenager because the stories are more mature and thought provoking than regular American animation aimed at kids or adults. It's just more entertaining than regular tv and boring life programs.. Since there are multiple genres such as historical, gore, comedy, action, romance, mystery, horror, etc. and the shows are always way better when things are over the top, that live action shit just can't compete with it. My favourite have always been action and gore because I enjoy watching people get gutted and murdered cuz it's fun and exciting.

anime - and manga as well, has always seemed very compelling to me.

I have seen some here comment on how they love the form of storytelling and the way the medium is used. Which is all points that I agree with.
I've also always loved the artstyle and broad spectrum of stories and genres it provides.

I started getting into it when I was a kid because my brother bought Dragon Ball, and then he borrowed another series from a classmate, and I read them either together or after him. That merge into watching anime online, and I began to draw.
    It all developed after that.
So to me, it holds something nostalgic in me as well, as it started off as bonding time with my brother.

And I gotta say, to me, it's like anime and manga can use moods, feelings, and themes much better than a lot of western media.

I never got into it, honestly. I like the art styles, but the storylines never seem to hold my attention.

Even the OG shows like Akira. For those who don't know, Akira is widely regarded as a genre-defining film that put Japanese animation on the world stage. It's hard to overstate just how big of a deal Akira is in modern Japanese media culture.

I absolutely loved the first 10-15 minutes. As soon as the aliens show up, the movie totally lost me and it turned into a total snooze fest for me.

It's ok, my boyfriend is a big weeb so I do watch quite a bit of anime. We just finished Fairy Tail (his favorite anime) And we just started sword art online.

Yeah, a lot of them, I've watched more anime than live action shows at this point by a large margin, even if you don't count western cartoons (which I also like, and the east still refers to as anime), its probably over a thousand shows by now (granted most are only 20 episodes long).

Though I don't like the ones with depressing tones to them, or bad endings.

As for why, the same reason I like movies (aesthetics, good art, mystery, suspense, action, comedy, interesting stories and subjects, etc).

I'm also an artist and include that medium of art in my portfolio.

Creative freedom. Anime can be portrayed in ways movies and tv-series with real actors can't because it has to be realistic in some ways. Anime has no limitation and can therefore be manipulated in any way possible.

@TheSpaceGnome naw low IQ is wrong. Most anime is poorly scripted with poor dialog that overly explains plots because the writers do not trust the iq of its audience. If i need the plot explained in detail because I can't figure it out on my own. Anime would be a great choice.

And false. The anime you've described are manga adaptations. manga will try to explain the action because a lot of time action sequences can be difficult for readers to understand and follow with only colorless still images.

Naw every time I watch one they are similar. They have potential to be good by storyline. But fail to execute.

Example deathnote. Bruh, there was very little difference in speech patterns, and verbage. They over explained everything.
And dude kills a few people that are arrested from natural causes, but they instantly go someone is killing them. With no connection at all with the deaths that could lead anyone to suspicion. They talk about how smart the killer is the entire series, and yet, every move he makes leading to his capture is from pure idiotic behavior. Lack of consistency, and lack of effort to make it feel believable.

And I haven't watched a ton, but I seen episodes of several of them when I was in college. a lot of the dudes had them on, and there was those similarities I noticed

Naw the iq response was to the goon who decided to cry because I don't like anime, and tried to take a cheap shot because he can't handle a different opinion about something he likes.

As for Manga and anime, I have never been invested enough to learn the difference.

"Most anime is poorly scripted with poor dialog that overly explains plots because the writers do not trust the iq of its audience."

See thats what I'm talking about, thats a low intelligence response, an art medium doesn't have to be a puzzle to be a creative masterpiece, you are mistaking subjective preferences for objectively good writing. Most anime are well written for what they aim to be. "Mystery anime are not common" does not = "most anime have bad writing".

Most anime also don't explain plots very well because of how nonsensical they are, and many have no serious plot and are just comedic relief, these choices are done on purpose to convey a specific tone for the show, so its actually more often that the inverse is true.

basically what you said is the equivilant of "most video games have bad writing" or "most movies have bad writing", its pure opinion at that point, and intelligent person would know this. And most of the smartest people on the planet watch anime/cartoons, sci-fi and fantasy movies, and play video games. These are the same people who make fantastic art, create very complex music, study physics, coding, engineering, and invent new things.

I do not. It's most often weird and the fans even weirder, with the whole "cosplay/comicon" world. I have discovered a very select few animes I have enjoyed, one being Vinland saga. This because it actually concerns real history and retells it very well through a good story. But 90% of anime is just sheer bizzareness.

"How one tiny moment in time can be expanded to last 20 minutes!"

Namek exploding and the tournmament of power are good examples of that lol.
I wonder if thats done on purpose or not.

I can't stand it. I find it immature and embarrassing that anyone over the age of 14 would even want to watch it.

No, I hate it! I've hated it ever since I first saw it back in the early `60's. They've been drawing this stuff for the past 60 or 70 years and they STILL can't come up with any better stuff?

I like some. I found Attack on Titan interesting, at least initially. Also the moral lesson of how power corrupts from Death Note was fitting even though the story itself was ridiculous. And One Punch Man is hilarious.

Because I consider the story more important than the graphics.

And you can draw more than do live action so gems that would never have become a big Hollywood production are still out there.

I hardly ever get to watch anime, as none of the supposedly "good" ones come on any of the channels on my cable package.

Yeah, it's a good medium for fantasy and to explore creativity in general. It's a lot easier to portray unrealistic scenarios in drawings than trying to replicate them in real life or with cgi.

Its also easier to keep characters in a series since a voice actor dying or quitting/retiring means a replacement VA instead of killing off the character. And ots easier to flesh out stories over longer periods of time because unlike movies or even live action shows, they can run for much longer, so the world building, character development, production costs, continuity, and overall quality tends to be better in anime.

Japanese writers also tend to write characters better and do art better than in American cartoons most of the time, because of how popular animation is with adults there (though some well crafted American cartoons do exist).

Anime? No, the voices are terrible, plus they cut out a lot of good information. Manga or Light Novels I like both of them.

I used to watch it more than now but I think it's much better than other types of animation since the story is very intriguing like a good novel and the animation is usually unique

I am a geek myself, so I tried it. But I found it too exaggerated and weird. Plus I'm not a fan of the characters artstyle.
