The same could be said about song writing or writing a book. I think that in every creative process, we delve deep into our own past and experiences.

Yes it's true. Being a writer myself I can give confirmation to that. Writing in whatever form is an expression of a person's emotions. Those who prefer to write are introspective individuals and we find it hard to show our emotions and whether it's poetry or writing a story you are basically taking an experience or negative emotion and transforming it into something beautiful. A true metamorphosis. And it always generates from something that has happened in our lives.
