Almost all the best metal was born in the UK. The best US metal is the bastard stepchild of the British metal; the guys who formed those bands were first listening to the British bands like Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Diamond Head, and Judas Priest. In fairness, they were also listening to AC/DC and getting inspiration from Canada too, eh?

When it comes to metal, both the US and UK have immense contributions to the genre. The UK gave us giants like Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden, while the US contributed with Metallica and Slayer. Since you mentioned it's not AC/DC, if I must pick, I'd say the UK edges out slightly with their pioneering influence in the genre's early development. 🤘🇬🇧

We here in the UK beat the US at least. That isn't particularly difficult.
But we'd lose out to Norway, Sweden and Finland, obviously.
That aside, there are good metal bands from all over Europe... and a moderate showing from from South America. Not much from Asia / Africa though.
