Do you like Elvis?

I had an older friend and working compadre back in the 90s who was a complete freak fanatic over Elvis. He'd been to Graceland a couple of times and had every album the king had put out. He could talk like him and had stories galore before the internet.
I wonder if younger generations discovered Elvis and if any were crazy like Randy was.
My two sisters were nuts about him too. I couldn't even watch his movies as a kid because they were right in front about a foot from the TV.

That's one of their best if not the best. My mother was pregnant with her next to the last when this was out and named my sister Sherry. I have 2 whole and 2 half sisters. Sherry is the best. 2.5 years older to the day.

He was also a humanitarian and anti-racist.

Chuck Berry Introduced Rock and Roll to America. Elvis just made it acceptable for white America. Sad as it is to say, we still had REAL racial problems in America back then. Elvis certainly should be credited with helping break down racial barriers, but he also heavily borrowed from black music in his early days, much as English bands would do in the 60s.

I like some songs of Beatles or Rolling Stones which are from same era as Elvis but I'm not a big fan of him. I find texts are to simple and music is too monotone.

Not very much, he was an OK entertainer but a terrible song writer who stole most of his song from other artist in the form of forced co-writing credits resulting in song writing royalties. I prefer Roy Orbison, was a much better singer and actually wrote/co-wrote most of his songs.

Oh, in the king's defense it was colonel Tom Parker responsible for that shit with songs. He tried it with Jerry Reed on Guitar Man and Reed stood his ground. Told Parker that nobody took his songs from him to the threat that he'd have Elvis pull out of making the cover. Reed didn't care. He didn't compromise himself nor would he play the whole. Elvis wanted to fo the song very badly and Parker lost. By the way, Jerry plays the guitar on Elvis' version because they couldn't find anyone to match the sound that Reed had on his own rendition.
