In the 1950s they had these anthology shows such as Playhouse 90 and General Electric Theater. Would you like to see this style of program come back?

The Twilight Zone was also one of these. Big companies or products would sometimes sponsor them such as United States Steel or Lux.

They would have different movies stars on each episode and do a whole different story each week, they didn't follow a storyline the way TV does now. When I went to read about them, there were a gazillion of them.

It would be interesting to see how this kind of show would be done with today's stars.

That was then, when people watched shows when they were aired. Now we're streaming and can watch whatever we want whenever it's convenient. We don't need anthology shows. If you want to watch plays, you can watch them. A lot of live theater is recorded for streaming.

I well recall many of these presentations and can readily attest to the fact that these were outstanding. The acting, the plots, the writing, the directorship ~ all phenomenal. Television needs this type of entertainment today. It will never get old.

They did. Pretty sure Twilight Zone came back with Jordan Peele. Nobody heard about it because nobody watched it

There's very little I'd like to see come back from the 1950's, except prices! Just the prices, not the wages!! LOL The Twilight Zone was a great show, and it was re-done several times. Black Mirror is a direct spin-off as well, so it's not totally gone from TV.

I don't watch TV any more but I remember my step dad use to watch those i always found them kind of interesting because of the storyline but just how the film was made. I was always trying to figure all of that out pretty interesting

This type of programming continued until the mid-1960's and it was quite excellent. Then, "progress" demanded that things change, and these programs were all cancelled.

Today's audience doesn't have the patience to watch an anthology show. Too much emphasis on immediate feedback and entertainment.

Better to leave these in the 1050s where they were quality television.

you mean make it about the story and not the actor? they'd never go for it these days, since most actors believe they ARE the main story. My absolute favorite example of this is Are You Afraid of the Dark. While not exactly the same format, since it had a main cast at the beginning and end to introduce and close out the stories, they were all individual and focused on different "spooky" stories each week that were not tied together.

Yes there were some good shows. Another one was Route 66, which had the same two main characters but they were in a different place and situation each episode.

Yes. I just completed the original Twilight Zone run and am now going through Alfred Hitchcock Presnts. Dated, but still enjoyable.
