Quite a few, I probably forget more than I remember.
I have a few friends and a former housemate who played in the NFL, only one was really a fairly big name though. But I met other guys through them. This was all 15 years ago now, their names probably don’t ring the same. My old housemate does some on-camera stuff nowadays for the NY Giants, one of his old teams. He was actually on the draft broadcast this year with my other buddy (the bigger name guy) out in Germany with some international fans for one of the later round picks, because the NFL is desperately trying to catch on in Europe, lmao. Always kind of surreal to see them on TV.
I used to rap a little with a couple friends’ more organized duo, and we were asked to be the opener for both Blackalicious and KRS-One. So I met Gift Of Gab from Blackalicious and KRS, both good dudes, and KRS is a legit pioneer in the rap game, so that was an honor to just warm up a crowd for him.
For more random meetings, the biggest names were probably Dave Chappelle or Bobby Orr. I met Chappelle after a performance when he was popular but not yet a superstar. ALMOST got to blaze with him, but his manager said they had to go. I pulled my bag out to try to dissuade the guy, like “I have it right here, it’ll be five minutes”, and Dave clasped both hands around mine, his eyes got all wide and he goes “Can I hold this?🥹”, lmao. I gave him some to smoke on his ride to the airport🤣 So I didn’t get to burn with him, but he did smoke my bud😝
Bobby Orr, I was like 13 or 14, and my dad had gotten spare tickets from his company’s skybox suite to a Boston Bruins game for my birthday. It was at the old Boston Garden🫡 We were directed down a private hallway to some elevators. The elevator had an actual elevator operator working.
I’m just there staring at my sneakers, in a pretty crowded elevator. I hear the operator say “Hey Bobby, Derek told me to tell you to go see him.” A voice says “Derek who?” The operator says “Sanderson.” That was an ex-Bruins who was now the color commentator on the TV broadcasts, so I’m thinking “wait…. WHAT?” I look up, and sure enough, standing right next to me is NHL legend Bobby Orr.
I didn’t grow up watching him, he was retiring by the time I was born. But no Bruins fan doesn’t know who he is, he’s probably THE all-time Bruins player. You could argue he’s a Top 3 player of all time, league-wide. Revolutionized his position, a defenseman who could rush with the puck and score goals.
So I’m just starstruck as fuck, probably just gawking at him with my jaw hanging, lmao. He sees me, as he’s getting off at his stop, and he says “Hey, enjoy the game, kid!”, and gave me a good-natured elbow in the ribs, which left an ever so small red mark on me, that I was trying to show off at school the next day, but everyone was like “I don’t know, man. I believe you but I don’t see a mark.”🤦♂️🤣 Never heard a bad word about the guy, and he went out of his way to give me a moment that I’m sure he’s long forgotten but I never will.
I also got to meet Charlie Murphy, Eddie’s brother, mostly of Chappelle’s Show fame. I was Head Of Security at a bar, and one of our regulars was this older guy who was in charge of events at UMass. So he comes in one night with Charlie Murphy and his entourage in tow, after a comedy show Charlie put on. I remember it was a Saturday but it was dead because it was pouring rain outside. We had this little lounge area in the way back, and I IMMEDIATELY hustled them back there, because Charlie seems like the type of dude who would slap the shit out of some white college kid idiot for running up and making quotes that they shouldn’t be, lmao. Like I was just envisioning the beating that would ensue if some white frat bro named like fuckin’ Logan or some shit recognized them and ran up like “DARKNESS! DARKNESS IS SPREADING!” Dave Chappelle can make that joke. You can’t.
I managed to keep them hidden without incident, and the one annoying “customer” turned out to be our very drunk general Manager who was hanging out. He’s like “Steve-O🥴…Steve-O🥴…. go into John’s office and get his camera🥴”, and I’m just like “Oh god🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️…”🤣 Charlie seemed to enjoy the recognition though, and was very gracious and took pictures with him. But our GM would keep wanting “one more, one more🥴…”, so I had to take like ten pics with him just in slightly different poses lmfao. Didn’t take a pic with him myself because he went through enough already😝
My favorite was meeting my junior high hero, Zack Morris, from Saved By The Bell. “But Steve, Zack Morris is the name of his character! His real name is Mark-Paul Gosselaar!” No, no…. fuck you. He’s Zack Morris😝
I got dragged to a home show at an expo center (called Bayside…. PERFECT👌 They went to “Bayside” High on the show😂) by my parents, I think because I was grounded for something and they didn’t want me home alone fucking off and having fun when I was supposed to be punished, lmao. So I was pissed to be there. But then I see this HUGE line of girls my age, so i definitely wanted to see what that was about. Turns out it was the line to get an autograph, and for two bucks they sold a photocopy of “Zack’s” headshot you could get signed.
So I hopped in that line, inexplicably thinking that at 13, I was going to be pulling chicks from the line who are there to meet one of the teen heartthrobs of the day, who was like 19🤦♂️🤣 Incredible arrogance on my part, lmfao.
I must’ve waited an hour and a half. The whole time I’m wondering what I’m going to say. Do I make a “Bayside” joke, due to the expo center’s shared name with his show’s high school? No, that would be lame, and there’s no way like 50 people would’ve already dropped that. Low-hanging fruit.
Instead, I remembered a question about the show that really bothered me. They would have these junior high “flashback episodes”, with an older Zack in the beginning introducing it, like “back in middle school…”, etc. The episodes would have Zack at like 13 or 14, and both Screech and Lisa were there, plus Principal Belding. But there was no Slater, no Kelly, no Jessie, and in a few episodes, it’s referenced that they live in Indiana. But Zack and the Bayside gang live in suburban Los Angeles…. what gives? It was never explained.
The internet didn’t exist yet, so you couldn’t look for info online. This was my big chance. So I finally get up to him, and I’m fighting the nerves. Zack was everything I aspired to be as a teenager, lmao. Probably not great in retrospect, but whatever🤣 He says hi to me, and then I let it rip: “Question: why is it that when you guys are in junior high, you lived in Indiana…. but then in high school, you moved to California, and you brought half of your friends and your principal with you?” He just looks at me and goes “You’re a smart guy”, winks at me and passes me the autographed paper, and I was hustled off by a handler.
Never got the answer until my 20s once I could look it up on the internet😂 Incidentally, it was a totally different show “Good Morning, Miss Bliss” for the Disney Channel that got cancelled, bought by NBC, and re-tooled as Saved By The Bell. They kept some actors, and cast new ones for new characters, and cut some of the old ones. I slept so soundly the night I finally got that answer🤣🤣🤣
I've met hundreds of celebrities. The majority being musicians, but also some actors and athletes.
When I was a kid, the guy at the top of my street was the Head of Security for Bill Graham Presents, the biggest music promoter in California at the time. He got me work cleaning up the backstage areas at concerts
This predated plastic water bottles - instead you either had pitchers of water and Styrofoam cups, or you had fast-food style wax-covered paper cups. And there would be a ton of them everywhere, because the crews and the bands would have several of eqch. That and hand towels. It was my job to pick them all up. And so I met dozens of bands and a few random celebrities.
I also grew up with a family of brothers who played together as a rock band. The youngest brother was the lead singer and bass player, and we are exactly the same age (well, 5 days apart). They used to pack pizza places full of paying customers every week. When we were 13, they made a music video and entered the MTV Basement Tapes contest, and won the grand prize. They went on tour with major acts for the next 3-4 years, but never quite made it. Still, I got many backstage passes and had full conversations with quite a few musicians. I played ping-pong with Mike Love of the Beach Boys in the 80s. Eddie Money was going to manage and produce the band for a little while, but then his comeback album blew up and he spent the next 5 years touring, but he came to my town and played a local show with them, so I got to spend a bit of time with him.
I currently have 2 retired MLB players as customers, and also a customer who rents an investment property to MLB players. My buddy and former employee who is in the same business, has a couple of retired NFL and NBA players as customers, and I have met a couple of them. And my niece's husband, who has been fighting cancer in his leg for 10 years, has been virtually adopted by an MLB player, and get taken to all kinds of events and family get-togethers, and I have been to one of those.
Finally, 25 years ago, I was working in video production. Mostly commercials and corporate stuff, but sometimes an upscale wedding or something. I met and worked with many models and actors, most of them not especially famous but a few who were or since became so.
California is full of celebrities, and most of the times I've flown out of SFO to Texas, Florida, New York, or Louisiana, I've had a celebrity on my plane.
Mostly, they have all been good experiences, but I always kept things subtle and tried not to call attention to them. I had an hour-long conversation with Adam Duritz, lead singer of The Counting CROWS during the height of their popularity (he was dating Jennifer Aniston at the time), while waiting for our luggage at SFO, and no one else recognized him despite his very distinctive look.
The only memorably bad interaction was Mariah Carey, and it wasn't MY interaction - I was just watching her berate people from across the room. My best might be Clint Eastwood, in the restaurant he used to co-own in Carmel. He was very gracious, talked with us for a few minutes, and posed for pictures.
A few actually. It depends who, but I was very nervous once because I had a crush on that particular celebrity and he offered to take a picture with me. I guess he could see the hearts in my eyes because then he made it a sexy photo where we posed like he was about to kiss me. I was so embarrassed.
Others, not a big deal but it felt special. The dad of my sister’s friend was a big star and it was fun to feel included because his friends (also popular) would sometimes be around and they were always super nice to us.
I sat next to a celebrity on a long flight once. I wasn’t sure if I should ask him for his autograph. I didn’t want to bother him (I’m not one for collecting autographs anyway), but I didn’t know if he’d feel hurt that I pretended he was just another passenger. I ended up just sticking to reading my book and listened to other passengers and the flight attendants whisper about him.
I met Henry Winkler "The Fonz" from the TV show Happy Days.
It was one early morning in San Francisco and I was on my way walking from the bus station to work. It was just the two of us. I was walking and he was coming out of his trailer waiting for the people to show up because they were making a movie. We both said "Good morning" and I told him I felt silly asking but I asked him for his autograph and he gave it to me. Then we both smiled and said "Have a good day".
I've had a few encounters with celebrities at various art and film festivals. One memorable encounter was at Cannes when I met Tilda Swinton. She was incredibly gracious and down-to-earth, taking the time to chat with fans. Her aura was as captivating in person as it is on screen. 🎬✨
Lily, it didn't happen. You aren't real!!
wtf.

I met a bunch of celebrities , mostly bands and some actors and actresses through the years , I have a huge list , mainly because a good friend of mine worked at the radio station , and was able to get me backstage passes a bunch of times. So I got to meet a lot of them Most of my experiences were good , only one not so good , because he was a douchebag , and I really wasn’t that big of a fan of his band , Paul Stanley from KISS , the other members of KISS were cool , but Paul was a douchebag that acted like his shit didn’t stink. Other than that everyone else I met through the years was pretty cool with great personalities. Lately a lot of my friends’ have been asking me about my experiences with meeting Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath which I have met a few times and have all their autographs which are going to be worth a nice chunk of change since Ozzy Passed ,
Damn. That 72% (at least currently as I'm writing this) on the "yes I have" sure is making me jealous as hell. I've never met a celebrity, nor have my parents.
If it counts an ex-friend of mine did meet Charles Martinet, ya know, the guy who does Super Mario's voice. He sent me a video of him meeting up with Charles Martinet. But me and my parents never have.
well i've met some at like horror film festivals. like from scream, i've met matthew lillard and jamie kennedy. they're both really nice and talked to jamie a bit bc not many people were there yet
also ran into randy orton once bc i used to live near him. we didn't talk long but he's A LOT BIGGER in-person than you'd think
One time I was walking through Walmart and I noticed a woman who was standing and talking to some people. After they left her, she turned and looked at me in an inviting way, as if maybe I wanted to to talk to her next. I just kind of smiled and walked past her. Later on I saw her on the local news. She was a news anchor. To this day (years later) she's still on the news, and I remember that moment that I could've talked to her if I had any clue who she was.
Not really. When I was a kid an NFL team was doing a charity basketball game in my small hometown. They set up tables afterward to do autographs. I was forced to go down the line by my parents.
As an adult, I met a radio and TV helicopter pilot / traffic reporter. He told me a good joke and was friendly. He was killed a year later in a homebuilt helicopter crash.
I met Miley Cyrus when I was 6, and when I was 15, Hugh Jackman bumped into me in the cafeteria at the summer camp I went to and he apologized. Lmao he said "sorry love" or "darling" or something australian. I refused to meet the Jonas Brothers when I met Miley Cyrus. I was too young and shy to smile around Miley. And Hugh Jackman I only realized bc the girl I was walking with told me it was him and I just accepted it bc I knew his daughter went to the camp that summer.
Colin Baker. Awesome guy. Didn't recognise him initially. Chatted about the play he was in at the theatre in Torquay. Only recognised him half an hour later when he was playing pinball on the Doctor Who machine we had in the arcade.
Gary Bailey - former Manchester United and England keeper. I don't follow football and had no idea why everyone else was sucking up to him. Again, really great guy.
Barely a celebrity. Herve Villachaize (sp?). I'm nit sure if he was a midget or a dwarf ( no offense intended) but he used be on a shitty sit com name The Love Boat and his biggest line was "de plane, de plane standing next to Ricardo Montalban, Had dinner next to Barbara Walters in Manhattan. Used to see a ot of ball players & new some pretty well
That was "Fantasy Island" Herve was on.
I've met many celebrities and it was ok I just talked to them like people and treated them like people. Talked their life, their work, some of their favorite moments on the shows or movies they've done what kind of feelings those scenes invoked.
It was good stuff good conversations with good folks.
I met Mark Harmon once when he was in town shooting a movie. I outfitted the cops in the movie and he had me fix a leather jacket he was wearing He seemed a good guy. . I met Ted Kennedy once when he gave a speech at the school where I work. I was hanging out with the TV crew and he came by and talked to us. He had a sweaty handshake.
Dozens of them!! So far, the only ones I can recall having any "trouble" with here Devo and Todd Rundgren. The rest, as far as I know, were pretty nice!! Some even invited me to hang out with them for a while.
Nelly's daughter went to my high school. She played basketball, he went to her games. I actually sat next to him during one of her games. I didn't even know it was him. Even if I had known, I probably wouldn't have cared that much, he wasn't there as the rapper Nelly, he was there as a father.
Local celebrities that played for Tampa Bay Lightning, an NHL team. My neighbor played for them and had a few of the players over at times. They were all very nice and friendly, which is surprising, considering how they are on the ice 😂
Never had the desire. I actively avoid being around people like that. I value my privacy and freedom to wander through life without drawing undue attention to myself.
I Met Victoria Justice and she was so MEAN! I literally cried when she shouted “Get away from me!” And mocked me for being fat. I blame her parents for raising a bitch
Several. I have had jobs where it was common to meet them and I have one of them in my family. Some of them have certain special talents and others are just creatures of media hype. Otherwise they are ordinary people like everyone else.
I've never met or shook the hand of a celebrity. I've seen one from the crowd while they were on stage, but not face to face.
However, I don't want to meet anyone who is talked about. I don't want to know them or their lives.
Not really any celebrities, but a handful of pro athletes. All were very cool except for one. Fuck you Sterling Sharpe!
I have numerous celebrity friends (across the globe) who consider me as a celebrity (like them) as well.
@DeeDeeDeVour You have gorgeous legs and they should be celebrities
Musicians, but not many that would pass as “celebrities.”
The people I admire are not exactly mainstream.
Very low level celebs.
It was fine. It was in family settings, amongst family and board games. They were just like anyone else.
I met George W Bush at the local regional airport when he arrived on AF1. He definitely had a Yeah OK attitude like his low energy brother, Jeb!
I've met and worked for a few.
After the initial meeting, they are just as common as the rest of us.
I've even stayed in contact to this day with some of them.
Only one I recall was Giles Brandreth who walked around a corner into me
I have met a few musicians & athletes over the years.
Several through work. Outside of work, yes, mainly musicians. Most were great.
I met Billie Eilish, it was just for a brief moment along with other fans
Every celebrity I ever met was nice apart from Mr Motivator, he was an arse
A couple of times. Usually it's nothing to earth shattering.
Yes I've met Paul Weller twice and he was very nice
Yes, I ignored them and I got their attention hahah
I did and it was a casual setup everytime.
Never met a celebrity.
tons of them it’s fine
Yes, it was nothing special
Many... top being eminem
I had some time with JLO and Cyrus.
