It's the anniversary of Stevie Ray Vaghn's death today. Were any of you fans?

I was just talking to my boyfriend and he said his dad called him earlier, to remind him, that Vaughn died on this day, 35 years ago. It means more to his dad, because he was there that night. He went to Alpine Valley to see Vaughn and Eric Clapton. It struck me, because I've seen documentaries about Stevie's life and it was an amazing one! After all his struggles with drugs and other demon's and his recovery from it, it all ends on a ski hill in WI 😞 Sometimes life just isn't fair. I know there's a diverse group on here, so, how many of you were fans of his or have a story about hearing of his death?

I like him and I like some of his music , I don’t know too much about him, but I know he passed away at a young age and that he was an awesome guitar player. But to be honest I didn’t know today was the day he died , it sounds like your boyfriends’ Dad was a big fan of his for him to remember it

He was a huge fan and was there that night. According to him, there was some uncertainty as to whether Eric Clapton was on the helicopter, because when the news hit, Eric Clapton's hotel room in Chicago, where there next show was, was empty. It turned out Clapton took a limo to Chicago but it was so foggy, they spent the night in Lake Geneva. I guess Clapton heard on the news about the crash and called his staff to confirm he's alive.

I was not a huge fan. I suppose if he was still alive I would be more of a fan since my musical tastes have changed. I was surprised that he died in a helicopter crash, I sort of thought he killed himself with dope.

That's what's sad, he ODed twice and almost died but the last year of his life was like he was reborn. He had been clean, was performing at his best and was going to start a family, only to die in a helicopter crash.

He died about a year after I was born, so I didn't discover his music until much later, but yes, I am a considerable fan. Texas Flood is a monster of an album.

@mysteriousNicholas heck yeah! but also, the story is based on the legend of Robert Johnson. In 1930, he supposedly made a deal with the devil (crossroad demon) for extraordinary talent to perform the blues. And I'm sure there have been others.

@mysteriousNicholas I don't know. he tried playing and got thrown out of the club because he sucked. He disappeared for a full year, came back and played again, and was the best blues player anyone had ever heard. This is documented. And several of his songs were about making deals with the devil, like 'Hellhound On My Trail' and 'Crossroad Blues'. Anyhoo, didn't mean to hijack the thread about SRV. Sorry Becky! :P
