We have had the Roaring 1920's, and one hundred years on are we the Serious 2020's?

What do you find funny on tv today?

In the late 70's and 1980's, Benny Hill was very popular in the USA, and was famous for the saucy comedian, with a flair for smutty jokes and slapstick routines.

What makes you laugh today?

A. Benny Hill is still funny.

B. In 2025 there are funny new programs on tv.

C. The world is a serious place, and there's a shortage of laughs.

D. I like being serious all the time.

E. Something else.

While the Benny Hill show may have been acceptable in the 70’s it was sexist and outright demeaning to women. It is a good thing that the BBC pulled the plug on that show.


Finding comedy that is not detrimental to a gender, sex or ethnicity nowadays is almost impossible.


“Keeping Appearances” was a show I greatly enjoyed as well as some episodes of “Mr. Bean”.


That is, however where my like for comedy ends. Mainly US productions are despicable and I would never get caught watching US productions.


The same applies for Hollywood movies that are more propaganda movies than anything else.


On the glory days of good series was ‘Columbo”. No gore and blood shed; only suggested.

Main reason Benny Hill was dropped was he wasn't coming up with new material. What's interesting is people who were raised on a tv diet of Benny Hill, love thy neighbour, and till death do us part etc are now the driving force behind the political party Reform.
