I have an inclination to get one for a more immersive big screen effect. Anybody watch movies with a headset? Pluses, minuses of doing so? Any recommendations as to what model?
Not going to do any gaming.

that's a great idea! i need to get one.
so i got to looking at those and camera projectors for tv and those are just a little cheaper. i can wait a couple of years until i have enough saved.
Yeah much the same attitude as it might not be as rainbows and unicorns as I am thinking. I might try some thing second hand and see if it fits well then get something better. It is not as if it is essential. More for the bedroom as I am finding watching/listening to stuff helps me to sleep but the dormer window geometry makes it awkward to have a TV.
i don't think i'd put it there. is there no other way to arrange the room?
It is awkward because aside from dormer, it is a cathedral ceiling i. e. it follows the 30 degree slope of the roof. I could wall mount but I wouldn't be able to see the TV easily. I actually like my apt is not a rectangular tube or a square box. So something I like turns out to have a downside :)
let us know what you decide and how it works
Bought a Rayneo Air 3S from Amazon and it was delivered in a day. I spent a bit of time reviewing products and the basically they seem to have various sales features like translate foreign languages. Many have cameras - it would be cool to have a telescopic function, bound to happen.
But I guess you just won't know what will be good if you don't get in. Already in 30 mins I like it a lot though thinner and lighter would be better. Certainly adequate for my first one.
Was funny in another way. Had a girl over and I asked her to try. She is a low tech gal. Her reaction was funny cause she was very respectful of my command of tech gear. I'll milk it while it lasts and probably get another so a girl and I can watch at the same time.
She did think it would better with a bigger screen but she really liked the sound quality.
Over all at least good enough.
too bad it doesn't come with features like google glass had.
Yes Google Glass was much more ambitious. But then phones started with just being able to make phone calls as the bread and butter reason to have one.
This week I also bought a new phone. Not for making phone calls. Nah. I'm calling it my AV phone. A Samsung S20 because it has display port alt mode and 1 TB sd card storage. Phone calls will probably be an unused feature cause my old phone is more pocket sized for when I am out and about (but can also hook up to the glasses).
These glasses will flower over time as smart phones have. Driven by porn and entertainment and then by shopping as the internet was.
it's hard for me to imagine what it's like. the lenses being so close sounds crazy.
All you see is a large screen in front of you. You are not aware of any lenses. It would be about twice the size of my TV in appearance.
Gave another friend a go today and his response was why have a TV now?
The main off-putting thing is I am used to looking at where action is happening. So my eyes swivel to right if that is the action is.
I am still doing that and tilting my head, so the screen tilts.
Rayneo is bring out an Air 4 so it might get cheaper in about 3 months to buy Air 3. I only buy what is rolling off market and upgrade more often. Cheapest way..
People complain about ambient light but it doesn't bother me. Nice to see where you are walkin. :)
interesting. so i assume they are somewhat see through. you can watch and walk and the background can be distinguished from the video? i did read that you can take them to any eyeglasses shop and they'll put in prescription lenses if you need them. that was pretty cool. i guess the lenses have very little to do with how the picture is made.
your friend wouldn't know what to do with a t. v. in his glasses lol
It is a blessing and a curse you see through them. Helpful to see where you are walking. It is a nice concept to have heads up navigation. Yet to try google maps but I don't think it will be very good. Sunlight washes out the image but all you have to is turn to a dark area.
It is not there yet with these glasses. Mine have covers you put on the glasses and I need that as my bedroom faces west and see a damn thing otherwise.
I just expect them to get better and better and happy to go that journey. There is a new version with AI. Once you have the hardware it is a matter of software.
I checked glasses and it is only if you have a prob with long distance sight not short sight as for me.
i look forward to seeing what comes out. competition should lower the price for me.
Absolutely! There will be a factor that we have seen in computers and phones. That new versions will come in with more features and things you want. Right now is a bit like when mobile phones came in and just did phone calls. Now they do everything except making coffee... but they can tell the coffee machine to make one.
Models rolling out of the market is the sweet spot I believe.
One thing I should say is you need to verify that your phone or other equipment is compatible with the glasses. The website should have a compatibility list. I had to back and forth because Rayneo had two lists that were different.
I ended up buying a refurbished phone. Because Samsung only support the necessary DP Altmode (DP = Display Port) in the S series. In the process I found out that the S20 is the last to allow SD cards to be added. It allows 1 TB so can fit a few movies on to it. Think anything from S8 up should work.
Know nuthing about apple
oh wow! i did not expect a TB. i was thinking they'd have to work their way up, or you'd have a device that was compatible. i don't think they'd come out with it for apple. android is it's nemesis. i don't see apple sticking around unless it starts to buy ideas again.
Unfortunately Samsung liked Apple's play and has fixed storage now :(.
When I googled, it told me S21 on doesn't have SD card slots and S20 was the last. Cheaper Samsungs carry on the SD slot ... BUT only the S series have DP Alt Mode which you need for glasses.
DP Alt Mode is mandatory so - at this point - only S series support glasses. As I think bigger storage is better I thought better snag an S20 for a curated porn stash :).
It's not a perfect world.
Wouldn't matter if you only stream but I have a big library of DVDs and I'll convert some to MP4 and content is kinda the point of glasses.
they have to know that's one of the things it will be used for. it could be more than half of their consumer base? let's hope someone can't catch a glimpse at an angle, or drive! yes they will do it or try. it's only a matter of time. you could be left with some rare glasses that get discontinued like glass did. which would make them very valuable?
I have checked and you can't see anything other than a vague splotch of color if they are facing up but nothing from the side. In whisper mode no nobody can hear. You could watch porn on public transport with out fear.
Samsung is being silly because the glasses transforms you phone into your AV system. It is awkward to select stuff. Lift the glasses up select x, play and push glasses down. That needs work. Need Windows Media Center for Samsung and some sort of mouse.
or a remote control for the t. v. ; D
i meant because you said it's like looking at a t. v. so it should have some way of using a digital remote as VR does, or it should have a better remote on the frame.
Can't stand the things 👀😅
Watching movies with a VR headset can be a fantastic way to experience an immersive big-screen effect right at home. You'll feel like you're in your own personal cinema! A plus is the enhanced viewing experience with a large, dynamic display and 3D sound. On the downside, VR headsets can be bulky and might cause discomfort during long viewing sessions. If you're not interested in gaming, models like the Oculus Quest 2 or the Sony PlayStation VR are good options. 🎬🎥 Always check for comfort and screen resolution before purchasing.
