I tried a friends headset. It is pretty weird. I did two games one was a weird rock climbing thing and I almost fell twice. Like on the ground not like in the game. It was so weird though I kept leaning over and trying to not hit my head.
Then I did a rollercoaster game where I was shooting balloons. That one I did fall and actually had to kneel down in order to lower my center of gravity in order to maintain any level of stability. It was so weird. Haha!

VR destroys the eyes, so I refuse to even try it.

TV sets are superior for gaming, no eye damage, and I can see whats around me in real life while gaming.

If the eye strain will be some how fixed will that get you to try it? or seeing what's going around you is a preference for you?

It's not an eye strain issue, its having a source of heat and light that close to the eyeballs. There isn't away to make that safe. You can lose your ability to see colors and details doing that.

And yes, seeing whats around me is both a personal preference, and a safey matter, there is also that I prefer games with challenging combat/gameplay, many of those are in hird person, and I feel first person view is inferior in most genres of gaming, especially the more fun genres.

I also really like fast complex character movement, playing a fighting game in first person view is a recipie for barfing on my pc. VR is more a casual gamer thing.

Thats my point, nearly every good, challenging, fun game, has that exact issue with first person, so third person is superior in my opinion.

VR only allows first person, a TV allows both, so a TV is better.

Basically VR won't ever be mainstream, because:
1. its expensive.
2. its viewpoint means it can play much less genres than a much cheaper TV.
3. its very bad for the eyes.
4. because its only used for first person, it lacks high challenge, so only casual gamers will want VR, but because VR costs so much, only hardcore gamers (who don't like VR), would be willing to pay that much for a gaming device.

Simply put, its market will stay niche, because only people who want full immersion in first person titles and are ok with the eye risks and the huge expense, will buy it.

First fighting games absolutely not first person, but that is not the only gender out there.. stuff that are more stiff on camera movement (means the camera stay in place but turns freely) can be just as challenging and all like in stuff like FPS that in all honestly can be really challenging and fun
Each has its strength and weakness

Now to the list on the rest
1. That is a chicken and the egg thing, prices go down as it becomes more mainstream, TVs used to cost an arm and a leg, then it was color TVs, then it was PCs, and today you can hold a stronger computer then that one for like 20$ 😄

2. Not true, Lucky's tale for one example is a 3rd parson VR game, platformer, and you also got some strategy games out there

3. I can't say on that, did not deep in research too much, but I do know TVs and any screen is not too healthy for the eyes, even that will say never felt heat on my eyeball from VR the headset is well aired

4. Don't think that is at all true as said before, also the challenge moves to a full body physical one, I mean to snipe you need to have good hand balance and your body needs to be able to be pretty still if you do it FPS

Fast search on Amazon 4K tv cost around 300$ a meta quest 2 is 400$, and that include the play system and controllers, so I don't think the price is really that matter now

Simple basis you see the game in 3rd view with your "cam" moving freely
Again I give a game name so you can look it up and see how it go, even if you can't feel it
Also fight games first person is a problem on a screen because your cool move means head spins, in VR not that much of an issue as you are it and you move your own head

3. Yes.. yes they can.. its light shining straight into your eyes keeping your eyes focused on the same length for long term
VR headsets are closer to you physically but the lens make it farther away, TV eye damage is not that far from that

4. that is also false, I mean the Wii did not flop did it? that's also movement
You also got arcade games with different things
The Kinect and Eyetoy failed because 2 main things
1. No games, there was a huge limit on games that even really support it
2. The games that did support it mostly use it as a gimick then really use it, or as a controller replacement
I remember playing a ape escape game they used it for buttons, thats useless use of the eyetoy
Also games like Ubisoft rabbit thing terrible, it just did not work
The kinect failed because it was not used ength and because developers where unable to use its functions the right way

1. Wearable technology in general will never catch on. Even watches, which used to be popular, were a thing people put up with only until cell phones started having clocks on them. The fact that this wearable tech burns out your retinas, is clunky, adds weight on your head, and impairs your ability to see your surroundings in reality, makes it extra worthless to most people. It of course has a niche market, but thats it's limit. Also how am I supposed to reach for my gaming snacks if I can't see them? And I shutter to think of the person who accidentally knocks them over, or worse... their drink...

2. This one is definitely a fair point, but why go through having something ruining my eyes if not for full viewing immersion? if in third person, why VR? VR's only niche value in my opinion is so it feels like you are not looking at a screen at all. It's best use is first person horror and certain fps games.

No, they can't, I'm a graphic artist, hardcore gamer, and anime/movie watcher, I've been sitting in front of TV sets, pc screens, etc. most of the day, for my entire life, and I have perfect vision, because I don't sit with my face right next to the screen. It only damages eyes to have it close, as screens do not otherwise emit bright enough lights to damage eyes. If you actually care about this, you would dim the VR headset screen substancially to account for decreased distance, not argue.

4. No, the kinect failed because it was something that people had to adjust to from a comfort level, and it made certain types of gaming worse. The way that it did either is moot. "Don't do that in any way" is the focus of my point. VR also requires getting away from comfort and makes certain games worse.

You could have a very dim VR screen, and a camera onscreen in the middle bottom (showing whats around you in reality), but the persoective will be off, and the immersion will be lost, so whats the point? Might as well drop the added weight and just use a tv at that point.

1. Smart Watches?
Also I still know a lot of people that got watches and use them.. also also can't count the times someone asked me for the time (I got a watch) they had a phone
A phone can do a lot, but sticking everything on one device I still think is not all that great
Beside that is kind of a jump, saying that wearable will never worked out, as much as I know some people will love to cut the need to hold there phones and will prefer to just wear them

Also checked about VR eye damage.. and TV eye damage.. the result... Both give you short term eye strain, but it only means go on a break no long term damage... so ya...

2. Because of perspective, first of all in VR you see real sizes, its something I really can't pass in words, you don't get size of something virtual till you see it Infront of you like that, its mind bending honestly
You also get a so much more flexile camera you can move while not wasting any controller buttons on it, as you can just move your head to do so, and that is what there doing now, given time and trails, there likely to find a lot more cool ways to use it
Just for one example taken a bit before the first horror game that decide to stick a monster that pops on your headset, or that people found way to let you move (even fly) without feeling sickness (except if you really sensitive) this is different, its not the same as a screen game, its so different I can't explain it, when you can see distance you see real depth, and real size.. it changes stuff

3. I care for it, but I did not think its all that different from TV damage.. but seems you where right... there is no tv screen long term damage, but on the other hand its the same for VR, that apprently gives you no eye long term damage, so far after a long time using VR on and off.. I can see colors just fine.. and had no more eye damage or change then what I had from birth (glasses).

Will have to agree to disagree I guess, I got good memories of a few games, and this weekend talk to the family some saying how they loved some Eyetoy games, and I remember that as well, but there where very view that where good, most where horrible "Lets shove this gimmick in" cash grabs, that I think give it the bad look it has/had, the Kinect I honestly think can be amazing if done right, and yes it makes games wrost if the game was not really set for it to be in the first place, or the deign of it was not really made trying to understand on the best use
I don't think we seen what kineck could have done, or could may still do
If you ever heard that Micrsoft wanted to make the kineckt part of the Xbox, and everyone where against that for privacy and price reasons
That was part of the reason Micrsoft wanted to do it, if every Xbox had a Kinect more developers will likely want to make things for it as a bigger market, and then we may have seen better stuff come out (I am still happy was not focused on anyone, will have been abused most likely)

Going back to point 1
1.1 Drink and Food you can't see, first of all there is a "see beyond" option in the headset I used anyway, gives you to use a camera, or see the world in this "tron view" that gives you better depth of what is around you
Do you place your drink and food on your controler? or on the sofa right by you so when you jump or move fast in a game it got a risk of spilling? no? so you just don't do that in VR as well :) sorry but that is not a problem
Also honestly I got a friend (The one I lend the VR headset from some times) said he plans when he go the time to make a "smart cup" and other stuff to help integrate stuff into VR, so you will be able to see your drink cup in VR
Beside that you want to eat and drink while in VR? better play a sitting game, and have the drink and food on the side where VR will not push you to get into, its not really an issue

If you try to make the experience worse you get a worse experience.. and then sure use a TV.. but if you trying to get a VR experience without actively trying to make it worst for your self, its very different then a TV so there is a big point to do it

The part about making it a worst experience is about dimming the screen and having a camera stuck there, then it be a worst experience ya, but its simply not what you do, and not something that needs to be done, I think that VR is an amazing experience that is different then a TV and when the tech and PC power get to it, it be able to replace the TV with a virtual screen but all in good time
