I don't think it will be used to constantly change prices. That would have the opposite effect. Instead of saving labor it would increase it at the checkout line. All the people would complain when the price at checkout is different than was posted. So checkout stops, while an employee addresses the situation. It would become a huge mess which store managers want to avoid.

Grocery stores operate on a very low profit margin. They depend on high volume to make money, not high markup per item. With very high volume sales, they want everything to go as smoothly as possible. Creating chaos by constantly changing prices is not the way to do it.

We see rapid price changes online. We've seen it for at least 35 years. But that is a different sort of thing. Online you can use it to your advantage if you want to bother with it. I used to get cheap airline tickets that way.

The grocery store that I shop at does not have digital pricing. If they start doing that, I will start shopping elsewhere. And even though my local food store has everything, A combination of Family Dollar and Dollar General has a lot of it. And I will start shopping there, when the prices are not variable. And I'll cut back on my shopping at my grocery store if they change their pricing method.

If I buy a major item at some big box store. Whether it's Walmart, Lowe's or Home Depot, if there is electronic pricing, I will take a picture of the price when I actually take the item off the shelf (time stamp). And that constitutes a legal offer. If the price changes at the cash register, and it's more than just marginal, I will leave the item right there and walk out of the store. And they can use valuable labor restocking it.

It's not really a legal recourse. It is voting with your feet. Market pressure. If you don't like it, don't let them do it.

Yes, I know about it. Our Aldi has been using it for about a year. It lets them price their products a few cents less than a nearby WalMart, which is a relief for us. It also lets them up charge milk at times, to make up for lowering the eggs, perhaps. Pete's- a large (meaning a huge store) independent mini-chain in our area- has added the tags to the majority of staple shelf items and the cold cases to help move product, which helps me Our Mariano (a Kroger store) has added some to certain areas of the store, mostly in areas where the foods have been pre-made for you, so there is an incentive to get those products sold, even if they have to reduce them a few times. If I have a question about a price posting of a product I wish to buy, I just shoot a pic with a time stamp to back-up my case, if I need to prove a point. It has helped a few times, but it had nothing to do with the electronic tags. The method of tagging makes no difference to me: if they have the product at a price I will pay, I get it if I need it. Simple, really. While I have to resort to my phone to get coupons (grr), I ALWAYS come with a paper list, noting the stuff I MUST get, plus anything else on sale. And I will ALWAYS know within a few cents, how much I expect my total to be. I've caught many more errors this way than anything to do with the digital tagging.
