If they have a purpose, sure; I don't see a reason not to include them. A well used love scene can make a movie better, by punctuating an important plot point, or showing the evolution of a relevant relationship to the viewers.

If they're completely gratuitous, then they can actually distract from the plot, and drag down the overall enjoyment of a movie. It can destroy the pacing, waste time, and damage a character's reputation.

Don't get me wrong; I'm a guy, and I enjoy a little erotic action, but if I just wanted to see some pointless nudity, there's a whole internet for that. I watch movies because I want an entertaining story, and a good plot, not because of an actress's boobs.

With limited exception, you can cut sex scenes from any given movie and not affect the plot or character development in any way. Sometimes it might be necessary to spend those same minutes developing a character or driving the plot in a different way. I say this only because i try to avoid absolutes unless i’m resorting to hyperbole for emphasis: i don’t think anyone could point to a single sex scene in any major motion picture that was absolutely necessary to the story or characters. Any picture that does need sex scenes is nothing short of soft pornography.

There are a 'variety' of movie types for a reason and the existence of the MPAA and MPA movie ratings.

Movies with salacious scenes in them are made for the audiences that like and appreciate them.

Movies that lack such scenes are made for a different audience.

The thought of forcing one genre upon those that would not otherwise watch them or withholding one genre due to antiquated puritanism is the only thing that would be out of order.

But I would like a world better to where if I dated a girl and she wanted to take up acting it wasn't an immediate break up and if I had a daughter who took up acting it wouldn't mean she was going to do endless nude scenes and simulate sex with a bunch of men.

It can be implied. Not shown. Scripts can be more wholesome too.

If someone takes a shit or a shower. They can close the door and that be it. You can even have the toilet flush sound or running water sound. I do not have to see them undress and get in and under the water. They do not have to pull their pants down in view and sit on the toilet with plop and fart effects.

There can be a love story without seeing them butt naked in bed pawing each other.
