I have to say for me it has been the piano. It just hits differently for me.

I was just thinking of asking that question almost to the word, about 3 or 4 hours ago!!
My version would've been, "When you were a kid, listening to music, what instrument mostly did you listen for in the music you heard and did you eventually learn to play it?"
With me, it was drums, bass and sax and, eventually, synthesizer. I was already playing drums by the time I knew I was alive and I've recently started learning bass and keys. I gave up on sax shortly after I started getting into it. It seemed too hard to learn and I wasn't thrilled about the spit gathering in it that had to be cleaned and emptied every so often. I tried guitar but my fingers a4re to "chubby" to be able to make chords the right way. Bass, I can deal with!!
@FunkyMonkee
This is so weird but ever since I was about 8 years old, the deums π₯ have always been my favorite instrument.
I used to play air drums to most of my music πΆ I grew up listening π§ to in the 70's.
Just last year I really started liking the electric guitar πΈπΆ sound. Isn't that funny π€£ that at age 70 I got into listening to the electric guitar?
@sage2021 Cool!! Another Karen Carpenter! Or, do you prefer to rock out, like me?

@FunkyMonkee
Was that you banging on the drums?π₯
Pretty cool π
What do you think of these two guitarists?
I was staying at my first girlfriend's house for a couple months back in summer `82 and I played the album this came from for her and there was a guitar near the t. v.. I can't play guitar for shit but, I picked up that guitar and actually played the tail end of this song note for note!!

Here, 10 years later, they picked another bass player and another drummer and became a double trio.

WOW!π² Very impressive ππΌππΌ!!
I really got into the second one. The vocals almost reminded me of Robert Plant in some parts.
All of it was amazing!!
When you said they added a base player, I first thought base guitar but no, an actual base like in an orchestra. That was totally unexpected!
Bravo!! So cool π
Thank you for sharing this with me. ππΌ
@sage2021 The bald guy, Tony Levin, was the same one they had before (he also played bass on the last John Lennon album and most of Peter Gabriel's albums). I was referring to the other guy, Trey Gunn, in front of the second drummer. He plays Warr guitar which is basically the same thing as the Chapman Stick (the thing Tony was playing in the first video). It's 12 strings and half of them are bass, half are guitar and it's also part synthesizer. But, the Warr guitar is held more like a regular guitar while the Stick is held upright and hooks onto the top of your pants. You CAN strum the Warr guitar but, it's mostly played like the Stick: you tap the strings on the neck.
@FunkyMonkee
It did look peculiar when I was looking at it. π€
The French Horn is the instrument that speaks to me. Its tone, notes and range are unmistakable. It's also easy to pick out of the orchestra. It's physically large and no other instrument is held with a hand in the instrument's bell.
Some composers, John Williams in particular, use the French Horn often during a piece, for both melody and harmony/background, while other composers use it to enhance the brass section, whatever brass is playing.
I'll let my grandson know he picked the right instrument, and just was able to move up to a double FH. He's up to second chair in his TN band group after only three years. He plays piano better by ear than I do, too, bless his heart.
I'm not very musical minded. I like hearing someone play guitar cos I admire how they do that! It's so multitasking orientated with one hand doing one thing the other something totally different.
I'd like to play drums if it wasn't so difficult to learn a loud instrument that is gonna sound bad when new at it. But that's just cos I wanna hit something hard (that's legal to do so lol)

the guitar. It seems very uncomplicated.
@7Phoenix7 I imagine that learning any instrument is hard. Learning it is a testament to your patience.
I play and love the sound of piano music but I know a guy that is a very accomplished guitarist, especially acoustic. Hearing him and watching him play it, gives me goosebumps. Guitar, specifically acoustic guitar, is my answer.
Also the piano, but there's a catch 🤏🏼
https://www.youtube.com/embed/8l1YWXrGjyASince the age of eight, I have been playing piano and keyboards. Consequently, I continue to be drawn to the instrument. However, the majority of the music I enjoy is guitar-based.
Piano and organ. The organ is easier to play than our piano, for me. The "oom" and the "pah" of the rhythm of each piece is split, so I don't have to bounce my left hand around as on the piano. But considering the piano has just one "voice", worked well it can give a surprisingly wide range of feelings and "effects".
I'm going to say piano, violin, and guitar. I love string instruments. Occasionally there's really good melodies with the flute too though.
I love a guitar that "gently weeps" personally.
I've never been hit with a piano. I used to play double-bass - the spike is a useful defence weapon
Thanks π
My serious answer would be guitar. Specifically I love the way Hank Marvin from The Shadows plays. There's incredible emotion in his rendition of "Cavatina" (from "The Deer Hunter").
I saw them playing live a few years ago to celebrate having been at the top musically since 1958 with Cliff Richard. They're all in their 80s now and still incredibly emotive performers.
Since i play the piano and electric guitar, also the clarinet, i'll say that the 3 of them sounds wonderful to me, except that the guitar is my favorite...
Electric guitar.
Shruti box.
You can't have good Hindustanti or Carnatic classical Indian music without it.
Six string acoustic guitar in standard tuning.
I've always enjoyed listening to the saxophone the most specifically in jazz n blues.
It depends upon the song. Generally guitar, but sometimes keys or organ, other times violins or cello.
The guitar or piano usually some type of string instrument like a violin too
Electric guitar. What a good song needs most is a great guitar riff.
The electric guitar 🎸🎶 👍🏼 yeah!
Drums, because I play drums.
The guitar, of course.
The piano and the guitar for me.
It's definitely Synthesizer :D
Cool π
Thanks :)
