Would you rather see a new original story or a reboot/remake?

Whether it's a movie or TV show, would you rather see a fresh, new, original concept or story or would you rather see a remake or reboot?

I would prefer 80+% to be original stories. But the problem is that Hollywood fired, drove away, or forced out most of the writers with talent and a track record because of DEI/identity Politics and replaced the with DEI hires that lacked talent but were "in political alignment". So now it's nearly impossible to make anything original that isn't terrible.

Over the last couple of years, a percentage of the old writers have been rehired, but most either changed professions or retired, so they can't get most of them back, and they are still actively avoiding hiring white males (except those with lots of experience and a stellar record), so even though they let lots of DEI hires go, they still have a big problem with writers.

Plus, people at the top always seem to have insane contracts that make them immune to consequences. Look at Alex Kurtzman and Star Trek. He's turned Star Trek into a Pride parade and no one has been watching for years, yet he's still going even though Paramount has lost hundreds of millions of dollars. The whole thing is a mess.

Even Christopher Nolan is infected. The Odyssey is going to be a big DEI project, and is going to make Tenet look like a massive success by contrast.

Nothing is original... it's all derivative of stories beforehand therefore I don't care about that, I only care if the story is done well and if a remake/reboot hopefully faithful to stay what it was that people liked about it though on a few rare moments a better version can be made with the right vision

It depends. I don’t mind remakes as long as the screenwriters do something a little fresh with them.


The reboot of West Side Story kept most of the original storyline and all of the musical numbers, but there were noticeable re-imaginations.


The reboot of True Grit I thought was a better and more honest portrayal of the Charles Portis book.


The remake of the Magnificent Seven was quite a change from the 1960 original, though the concept was the same.


The reboot of Road House wasn’t any better than the original, but Jake Gyllenhall smiles more than Swayze and is much more polite when he beats people to a pulp.


It all depends. Case by case basis.

I don’t watch a lot of tv/movies anymore so honestly I don’t care so long as it is well put together. Most of the ‘original’ ideas aren’t that original anyways

At this point, I would definitely rather see something that's not some remake being made.. So original stories again.. Where's the innovation and the risk.. Movies have become too corporatized like many other things in this world.. We need new franchises..

Original story. I wouldn't want to sit and watch the exact same movie for hours but with different faces.

Well, Full House was the original story and I loved the reboot and made Fuller House. I hope they do another reboot.
