Do you use subtitles when watching movies or shows?

From the standpoint of someone watching a lot of things in English while speaking Antarctiquench natively:
Sometimes, those foreign actors speak too fast, this is combined with the occasional hard to grasp jargon and my inability to tolerate missing dialogues lines.
Sometimes. Especially for movies or shows that I want to understand everything such as Game of Thrones or the Harry Potter movies. I’ll also turn it on if the actor doesn’t annunciate in a key line.
I almost always use subtitles 😄
For foreign films and k‑dramas, obviously yes, but I even keep them on for English movies. Years of watching festival films, anime, and indie cinema made me love catching every line, background mumble, and name. Sometimes I’ll turn them off in theaters, but at home I’m a subtitles-on girl for sure 🎬📺

It depends on if I'm watching alone or now. If I'm with friends. I knoe they don't care about every little hidden literary device like I do haha so I just turn on the subtitles so that even if we get loud I can glance at the screen and know what's going on without having to pay too much attention
The only time I use subtitles is when the sound on the film is poor, which does occur for some movies on streaming services. Film sound quality is uneven.
Also, when people have accents that are difficult to understand: some British shows and others that have people speaking heavily accented English.
Using subtitles is subpar because you're distracted from the visuals of films which are always most important and you miss Easter Eggs.
absofuckinglutely, yes...
but only because of this (you only need to watch the 30 second intro, not the whole video... lol)
All the time. It started when I was 14 and started hanging out with a deaf friend often oddly because he had the loudest car stereo. But I was a huge downloading guy back in the day so the captions were a click that was easy to make so my friend could watch along. I just never stopped after even when he wasn't around. Now I watch tv with volume so low I strain to hear it which I think has made my ability to hear better and the captions make up for the words which are to soft.
Yes, most of the time. I have a hard time following movies, so having the subtitles really helps. If Im in the theatre, I dont really need them (unless there's lot going on in the scene). I find watching movies at home, where there are lots of distractions, makes it difficult.
At home, I almost always have subtitles turned on. TV sound systems, even when using our external Bose system and speakers, does not do a good job of handling speech, and my hearing isn't what it used to be.
I love having subtitles, I love encouraging all manner of accommodations. What benefits the disabled benefits the abled
Nah it’s way too Distracting. How are use English subtitles when I’m watching a movie and other languages with us about it.
Yes, not for sports or anything that is live or a recording of something live. The subtitles are behind what you see. Most of the time, though, the subtitles are in line with what people are saying for tv shows and movies.
I can watch with subtitles but I like to ear it
Not for German or English, but for French and Spanish movies (to stay fluent).
I do not. I find them distracting. I spend my whole time reading and then miss the picture.
Yep, I've been using closed captioning for many years.
My sisters and I almost needed subtitles when my Tuscaloosa, Ala.-born grandmother spoke !!!
As bad as this?

Yea I like to watch shows and movies with subtitles.
Depends on what tv show or movie I'm watching at the time.
If it's in English, I usually don't use subtitles.
Always. I hate when movies don't have them.
Meh. I'm normally doing three things at once. It's hard to read a movie and multitask.
Not often 😕

No. Not even in parts where another language is spoken. If it's not there, I replace such laziness with my own interpretation.
For foreign films in a language I do not understand, yes.
yes especially when watching with my dad
That's cute
yeah it helps a lot!
Sometimes like when watching anime or Korean movies.
Only on a plane when the sound is too low to ear for the engines
Only if its a foreign film.
Oh HELL nO! I would blow my brains out.
Sometimes.
Only if it's un a language I don't understand
