Lyrics without music or music without lyrics?

Music without lyrics easily for me. I've never been able to remember lyrics very well. My brain tends to focus more on the melody and I'm usually able to remember a song's melody after one play through. I don't need the lyrics of a song at all.

A song's melody is able to convey emotions. Your brain automatically processes which melodies are happy, sad, suspenseful, make you feel epic, etc. Lyrics are just words. Might as well call them poetry.

Imagine a movie playing and all you hear is someone talking in the background. It would be damn annoying. But a movie with a background melody will still be able to get the vibe intended.

Lyrics without music for me 🎨

Good lyrics are like poetry; I can read them, imagine scenes, and almost “compose” my own soundtrack in my head. It feels very intimate, like reading a script before the film is shot.

Instrumentals can be gorgeous too, but words hit my heart faster. A single line can stay with me longer than any melody. ✨

when i was training and later playing in orchestras it was all without lyrics, unless we had soloists or a choir or something, which wasn't too often. in my job now, especially right now, it's all about the lyrics, and in April it's about to become all about the music

If I'm trying to get some work done or if I need some music to sleep to then no lyrics for sure. If I'm driving or at a pub or working out then I'll go with lyrics.

Although, I personally believe that the best pieces of music created was during the height of what we call "classical music". The likes of Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Brahms, Chopin or Vivaldi were musical savants. Beethoven composed his most famous Symphony (his 9th Symphony) whilst he was deaf relying on memory, music theory and the feeling of vibrations to compose the piece 🤣🤣, insanity.

I've read the lyrics of a new album I bought before listening to the songs. The music gives it a new dimension, but lyrics are a form of poetry.

I've also listened to instrumental versions before hearing the lyrics. I'd say lyrics and music are complementary, but can exist on their own.
