With so many bad reviews, are modern movies still worth watching?

Reviews of them all are horrific. The days of the 90s with classics are gone. its all nonsense now. Do you watch them in this day and age with the garbage thats out there?

I don't watch modern movies. Many old movies were outstanding because good entertainment was profitable. Instead of being motivated by profit, modern movies are full of propaganda and unrealistic political garbage. For example, a judge will be a black woman. If there are scientists, at least one, typically the star, will be a woman, and, romance will be a blonde girl and a black man. Occasionally, any of those might occur, but they are not and shouldn't be the norm.

@MrChinaski Unless fantasy is the premise of the movie — Superman, time travel, Snow White, etc. — I prefer realism to fantasy. So yes, I am vexed with modern movies

They're terrible. The Accountant is one of my favorite movies. It came out in 2016.

I got so excited when I heard there was a second part coming out. The Accountant 2 came out last year. Such a disappointment. It was so bad.. They should've just left it alone.

I never paid very much attention to reviews. I know modern movies are trash cause I don’t enjoy them and I usually end up turning the movie off before it’s over. Every time I look at Netflix, I spend 35 minutes scrolling through movies and most of the time I don’t even end up watching a movie. From the rear occasions, I do watching a movie It usually feels just like every other movie I’ve seen.

With all the streaming channels that there are there are no big budget blockbusters anymore. After Covid nobody wants to sit in a movie theater with a bunch of strangers talking on their phones and getting up every ten minutes for popcorn when they can stream a movie on a big screen TV in their living room and pause it if they have to get a snack or go to the bthroom.

There’s a lot of trash, but that was true in the 90s too, we just remember the classics.

Today you’ve got incredible stuff like Parasite, Dune, Past Lives, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Aftersun, Drive My Car, indie A24 films, Korean and Japanese gems, and festival hits from Cannes and TIFF.

Ignoring big blockbusters and following directors, festivals, and smaller studios keeps cinema exciting for me 🎬✨

So many 90s movies and early 2000s movies are problematic.

For me its Cruel intentions. We were rewatching it recently.

Anyway I used to think the villian in the show was Kathryn Mertuil whos both horrible & manipulative & the main male character Sebastian Valmount is this poor wayward bad boy who changes his ways after he meets the right girl but now I see that he is just a privileged rich boy who never faced consequences for his actions which are actually pretty creepy and is more like a Law & Order SVU episode. He deserved jail.

1. At the start of the movie to get revenge on his therapist he stalks her daughter, has sex with her, takes naked pictures of her and posts them on the Internet taking great delight at his therapists reaction. Jailable in 2026. This is displayed as almost a just revenge moment and he was so cool and clever for this but its absolutely horrible and creepy.

2. He basically lusts after his sister kathyrn even engaging in dry humping of her and groping her.

3. He pursues Annette Hardgrove his schoop's the head masters daughter with the intent of destroying her reputation and sticking it to her authority figure father all because she featured in an article about saving herself for marraige. She would be his greatest conquest.

4. At his sister's manipulative request he pursues 15 year old Ceille Caldwell providing alcohol to a minor to take naked pictures probably to slut shame her on the Internet then performs non consensual sex on her and later begins a sexual relationship with her all the while treating her like crap.

5. Sebastian sets up Anette's male friend who he suspects of warning her about him with a homosexual friend of his so he can black mail him in to convince Annete that he's a good guy.

Like who wrote this? Who produced it? Who read the script?
