Yeah.
Many movies have Mary Sues. Character development is replaced by fancy visuals.
I worked as an animator a few times and was/am involved with groups creating comic books and web comics. It's becoming more and more of a trend that the guys discuss the artstyle before they even have a character. Then when they want to create a character they give each member a crappy character sheet that's basically about hair color and skin tone, gender etc, rather than how he talks, what words he uses, what philosophy does he follow, his values etc. Members fill those sheets and they mix it up and there you go, you have a meaningless Frankenstein who's fulfilling one member's revenge fantasy.
One time I told the whole group your characters are absolute crap why don't you just hire a real published author? And they said "all of us can write". The arrogance was unbelievable.
It's not a surprise either, because Mary Sue is the ultimate feminist fantasy.
Definitelty agree. I subscribe to his channel and watch many of his videos. I don't agree with all of his stances on every topic, but he's spot on here. He even leaves some things out. One aspect of modern stories that he doesn't really touch on is how companies have what I call "fanfiction syndrome." All stories are inspired by previous stories, but original stories bring something entirely new or mix elements that have never been miced together in that exact way before. But modern movies and television are almost always averse to creating an original story that is truly inspired by predecessors--instead they copy them outright while pasting some new stuff in. It's equivalent to instead of writing a new essay inspired by the essays of predecessors, they take sentences and paragraphs from the old essays and just mash them together and call it an original essay, which wouod be called plagiarism. When movies do it, it is creative plagiarism of ideas. Not technically illegal, but it's an unforgiveable artistic sin.
Thankfully I am here to save you and others alike. Look out for 022426, not official but more likely than 022424. AAAAAAAAAHO
In the 90s multiplex cinemas demanded as many new films as they could get. It drove the new golden age of cinema, when creative and unusual ideas got a chance. It's why films like Fight club, forest gump and being John Malkovich got a chance to be made.
Now it's back to movie studios being careful and not particularly creative. Following formulas rather than ideas. It's also responsible for the reboot, essentially taking tried and tested ideas and remaking the same thing in hope anyone will go see it. Consequently we are offered lackluster attempts at films that were great, like the new magnificent seven. An ok film, but compared to the original not great. Or travesties like the remade Italian Job that had its soul ripped out and left us with a poor imitation of the original.

I can't remember the last "new" movie that I saw. All that PC/woke crap is insane!
Hollywood has abandoned creativity in favor of $.
old movies relied on good acting now they rely on computers to do the work and the acting sucks
... How many reasons do you want?
Ah, my favorite drunk Scotsman
