I grew up on “Death Wish”, and i even liked the remake with Bruce Willis. Vigilante movies are awesome! I also did over a series called “Mr Inbetween” about an organized crime thug for hire who also has a vigilante streak. I luv’d it!
Especially in cases in which the government refuses to take the necessary measures to protect law abiding citizens and punish criminals, i am very pro vigilante.
It’s only dangerous for lame duck governments and criminals. But i recently rewatched Edward Snowden’s interview with Joe Rogan and he talks about something in a way that nobody was saying before and too few have done so since. He talked about how, when called out for unlawful conduct, the government didn’t change their conduct to fit within the laws. Instead they changed the laws to fit their bad behavior. This is one of the most blatant forms of tyranny in modern history. Similarly, we can see the UK refusing to stop criminals and instead punishing law abiding citizens for talking about it. I can definitely see how any state that functions like that would fear the impact of a movie or series that puts citizens defending themselves in a positive light.
