Do you prefer traditional paper books or convenient ebooks, and why?

I love the feel of traditional books -- the smell of paper and the feel of turning an actual page but ebooks are so much more convenient, not using anywhere the amount of space.

What is your preference?

Same as you. I enjoy the feel and simple usability of a physical book. No worries about battery life or the text getting washed out in direct sunlight. But I have to admit my Kindle app puts my entire library at my fingertips. With adjustable lighting for anything but direct sunlight. And I can flip from my laptop to my iPad to my iPhone while never losing my place in the book. And ebooks are generally a lot cheaper than a physical book these days. I can adjust the text size and font to my liking. I can read it in landscape or portrait orientation.

I think overall, I've crossed over to the ebook side.

I believe that books 📚 are a way of rebelling against too much technology. Let us enjoy some piece of doing something the old fashioned way.

Depends what it's for. If it's a larger book I do like the electronic versions to skim and notate. If it's a small book that's easy to carry then I prefer the actual book.

For art books, photography, manga and anything with pretty layouts, I need real paper. I love the weight, the cover design, even the worn edges. It feels like part of the experience.

For travel, festivals, and late-night reading in bed, I use ebooks. Lightweight, adjustable font, built‑in dictionary.

If I had to choose, I’d still pick physical books for the soul, ebooks for practicality 😄

Paper books. I'm a "visual person". I could never imagine having to listen to everything that I have read for my studies in Graphics (obviously), business, and later, massage therapy.

I was once a volunteer "reader" for an NPO that recorded books for the blind. I got to read a lot of factual-science-based books. It was really very difficult for me to read, keeping the focus on the information, yet keep it interesting and not monotone/monotonous yet read at a fast pace. The problem wasn't in reading the words- no problem there. The biggest problem was keeping it from putting people to sleep! Very few people have a talent for reading non-fiction, instructional books. It isn't like reading a fiction book with characters, and using distinct inflections for each character- much easier.

Real books!! I much prefer the feel of the real thing in my hand, plus, I'm not thrilled with having LOADS of scream time. And, most often, stuff printed online tends to be light grey on a white background so it fucks up your vision when you try to read it!!

Programming books are great as ebooks because you can directly copy and paste from them. Everything else, especially fiction, I prefer on real paper.
