I had favorites, but i couldn’t watch them on demand because we were poor. I didn’t start collecting movies until i was a young adult.
At the time, i verily looked forward to “The Wizard of Oz” and “The Hobbit” animated feature (1977) coming around every year. I liked to spend Halloween at my uncle’s house because he had HBO. I would watch the first two “Halloween” movies (1978 & 1981) back to back on Halloween night, no commercials!
More routinely i would get up extra early on Saturday mornings to binge watch cartoons. Yes, kids, binge watching was a thing long before streaming. The irony is that i had to be dragged out of bed for skool, but i was up early on Saturdays without an alarm because i didn’t want to miss the cartoons. 😂😂

When I was a kid, movies were primarily just on broadcast TV and cable TV was nothing like what it is now with a zillion channels. Cable consisted of a few movie channels and they primarily ran movies that were in theaters within the past year or two.

So, keep that in mind...

I don't know if "comfort movie" is the right phrase, but, as a kid, I did like the pre-1970 Godzilla and what we now call kaiju movies.

My favorites were the very few science fiction movies and a few horror movies like "Dracula", "Horror Hotel"/"City of the Dead", and "Dr. Terror's House of Horrors".

Mine was Spirited Away and The Parent Trap (1998) on repeat.

Spirited Away totally shaped my art taste with its dreamy visuals and weird creatures, and The Parent Trap just felt like a warm hug, especially during sleepovers or sick days. I still rewatch both when I need comfort and nostalgia 🎬💫
