i can tell in 10 seconds if it's going to be great or a disaster
i just saw the Harvey Weinstein movie and the Prince Andrew movie and they were both excellent, except i did not like the actress who played Sam McAlister. i did very much enjoy Gillian Anderson who is unrecognizable in everything she does
I'm Tempted to Watch When: (1) I know the actors and like them... or (2) someone I appreciate recommends the film... or (3) I'm invited to go to the movies.
I'm Turned Off When: (1) I know the actors and don't like them... or (2) someone I find ridiculous recommends the film... or (3) the cost of going to see the film is greater than the cost of a burger at my favorite spot.
I know what turns me off.. It's the way modern trailers (especially ones that are more action or comedy) music the epic drum sound affect just to show some weak scenes.. Turns me off right away.. But, I do love trailers that are actually trying to tell a story but not give away the plot.. Or even just tease the audience and leave us wondering.
obviously, my interest on the topic or lack of it... and the recommendations from a few people that are into similar stuff than I am...
other times, I just watch it out of curiosity and because I have the time...
but most of the time... I watch movies with others, so I join them and we watch it together, lol

The problem is that trailers are so well done to show the exciting parts of the movie that the rest can be a dud. I think for me if it is based on a true story then that piques my interest for sure.
As for turn off I have to say a lot of violence and action. Some action movies are good, but it is. just violence and violence I probably won't give it a shot
I usually check a movie out if it gets a low rotten tomatoes score and high audience score. It means the movie ignored politics and did exactly what they were supposed to do, which is cater to the audience.
A buxom blonde leading lady, and a fat leading lady, respectively.
Any woke nonsense
Word of mouth mostly, either way.
