I mean the price of food and tickets has gotten even more ridiculous. The seating is worn out and uncomfortable. The crowd is dead silent and barely laugh anymore. The eyecandy ain't what it used to be. Sometimes the room is too hot or too cold. A lot of films truly have not been worth the price. But dammit, I’m still gonna attend 😂🤷♀️ I’m too much of a film critic and film fanatic to ever stop. I just have to go. I have to. And I got my handy dandy notebook with me #FeelFreeToList
It's a combination of a lot of things that keeps me away from the movie theaters anymore. Number one is the cost then it escalates from that point. It seems like the corporation wants to keep their investors happy. It's not the entertainment anymore but how it pads the pockets of the investors.
You have idiots that come into the let's shoot the place up and they don't care. The place has become political not entertaining.
The food is ridiculously costly. Some of the theaters have switched to dinner and a movie. The meals that have been prepared or nothing but it glorified TV dinner. Nothing's even prepared by a proper chef or a cook. Nothing's prepared from scratch.
I having to put up with noisy children. Running through the theater. Dealing with crying children.
I have an issue pulling out of the parking lot because jerks trying to rush out of the parking lot.
I prefer to set up my home eat the meals that I choose to eat that I prepared. I can pause the movie if my bladder is over flowing. I do not have to put up with political BS. I do not have to listen to unruly children. I'm paying for the high price tickets. So what if it's not the first showing. I don't have to worry about getting hit by a jerk trying to get out of the parking lot.

Most movies now suck. They're either reboots or some dumb comedy where vomit or body odor are the jokes. Even a lot of superhero movies are going to streaming services because no one wants to watch in the theaters.
In my area, there is only one theater left within 75 miles. There used to be a couple drive-ins. They closed. People didn't want to pay 15-$20 admission.
Then there's the special effects. Special effects look so cheap. That's why I like 80's horror. The blood looked real. If someone got their head severed, it looked like a head was actually being cut from the body.
Now, the movie makers will do anything to save a few bucks but still make a killing in profits. Movie theaters only get about 10 to 20% of the proceeds. They make most of their money from concessions sales, so I blame the movie makers!

I didn't know what to select.
I still go, but I only go for movies I really want to see on a literal big screen. Otherwise:
My food is better;
My seating is better;
My sound is better;
The clarity of my TV is better.
And if I want to go to a these days, it's close to $30 per person. That's absurd.About fifteen years ago, I began to gradually withdraw from the current pop-cultural world. Even when I was employed and had a regular paycheck, I didn't go to the movies much, just because I didn't know what was out.
(Lack of good movies worth paying for being released) Last time i went to the movies was in 2019 until now i saw fast X and i fully regret it for paying this kind of money for such a movie. BUT!
The Spider man: Across the spider verse is coming out on June the 2nd here in Sweden. So yeah! I am going with that instead :D
Mostly because outside of price for snacks or a ticket in general, movies just really suck ass these days. No good plots, flat characters, crummy actors that keep getting roles that they shouldn't.
The last movie I dropped any money to see was John Wick 4. I just wait for them to be available for streaming so I don't waste money and time.I have AMC A-List, so I go all the time. I have a great home system but there's something to be said for the experience on a multimillion dollar ATMOS with dual aligned laser digital projection on certain movies. A black and white period piece probably not so much, but it's also the one time I let myself eat truly horrible for me food.
When they closed down due to covid. My wife and I have only been back a few times in the last 3 years. We got out of the habit and don't miss it. We have a big TV at home.
Maybe the reason we don't miss it so much is because there aren't many worthwhile movies. Fuck all the crappy CG action, jiggle cameras, dark screen, and bad plots. It's like the art of film making has been forgotten and replaced by cheap gimmicks.There are a lot of reasons most of them listed. I really do like going to the theater far more than watching movies at home. The icecream popcorn and coke have a lot to do with it.
My number one reason is it got boring. I started doing it as a second job and it got to the point were enough new movies weren't being shown. I asked myself WTF am I doing and just stopped going.I can watch what I want at home. I don't have to sit in a movie seat where someone had the liquid mud runs... in a seat and not deal with high ass snacks. Also if I give it time, the movie I want to see will come on for free in one of my movie apps.
The cleanliness, the price of the tickets, other people talking. I haven’t been to the movies since queen and slim came out. That was the last movie I went to go see. I have been to the drive in theatre a few times. But I don’t think I’ll ever go back to the theatre. I love watching movies at home , alone, in my bed with as many snacks as I want.
I haven't watched any new movies in past 5 years. And in my life till now i have gone to theatre for like 1-2 times.
Tbh i don't have that much of paitence to go and watch any movies or web series in home also.
Personally i like to watch Podcast of different people , documentaries , interview and short clips.
I am not a big fan of going outside tbh DizzySometimes I like to go, there’s one with really good seats that recline and we can fit in one and cuddle so that makes the ac is less of an issue. The price is actually good here, I still normally bring my own drink/snack in my purse because I just don’t like their snack options.
well i absolutely hate wasting the day away in a movie theater. it's expensive as hell too. and the people around you can be loud and unenjoyable. it's cold and i also have sound sensitivities. there's nothing i want to see that i can just watch at home anyways.
Yeah I think the streaming and movies platforms have had me go to the movie theater less and the cinema in my area is very nice. They have nice chairs that recline, atmosphere is comfortable and the tickets are actually reasonably priced. The snacks are pretty expensive and lately some movies or no movies I wanna see are only on certain platforms.
None of the above. Work and life has stopped me. But I'm going to go more now. I have some ill be watching when they come out. Especially the new Transformers. I missed John Wick 4 due to moving. The Flash is a maybe. I just want to see Michael Keaton as Batman again.
Mostly having to wear a mask through the whole movie during the pandemic. And even though I don't have to wear them anymore, going to the theaters doesn't have the same appeal that it used to.
I mean don't get me wrong I get why the masks were important but if wearing one is preventing me from enjoying a movie I'm not spending my time and money one.1. Disgusting seats and floors with God only knows what on them.
2. Paying high prices for something that might stink.
3. Absurdly overpriced concessions.
At home I can pause and rewind, have better, healthy snack, sit in comfort, have as many friends over for no additional film cost, etc.People behind me kicking my seat every time I'd go to the theater.
All of the other rude behavior by people.
Not being able to hear dialogue.
There are just so many reasons to not go to the theater.
It's a lot of factors I got older and wasn't living in the same house with my friends anymore. It's expensive. I can stream anything and actually it's often more immersive for me if I'm alone in my room because I'm autistic and there's no distractions. I can really dive into the screen almost and really be in the world but when there's people around it's different. Also I just saw a lot of good movies and after a while it's not worth it as much anymore. And I can stream anything.
The Cinemagic Theatres in my area were bought out by Apple Theatres, and they revamped many of them with comfortable, reclining seats. If I go by myself, it's usually to a discount Tuesday when all seats are $6. I'll bring some snacks but buy a drink there, so it's a cheap day. Biggest reason for my not going is shitty movies. Horror flicks bore me, Marvel and other comic book movies have gotten old. Hollywood is out of ideas so they're re-doing old ideas and trying to gloss them up for a younger and new audience. So far, I'm unimpressed with all but a handful of movies over the last few years.
The fact that I don't like going to the movie theater alone. But almost none of my friends like the same type of movies as I do. There are a few, but they don't live in the same city as me, so we rarely go.
