Notice a few black dancers on "American Bandstand" when The Newbeats guested. This was 1964, when "Bandstand" moved to Los Angeles from Philadelphia, where we were unscrupulously banned from dancing on the show. Pr*ck Clark allowed us on the show in 1964 only because of the June 21,1964 lynchings of Civil Rights activists James Chaney, Michael Schwerner and Andrew Goodman, and Clark didn't want his brand tarnished with being identified with white supremacy.

I've heard a not too pleasant thing or two about him recently but no longer recall what it was except that it made him a jerk, in my eyes. It was either right before he died or about the time he had his stroke.
