I like Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Byrds, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, and all those Motown artists (I'm a Michigan girl lol).
Kind of an intense decade, in the political sense though.

Absolutely! Music evolved exponentially throughout that decade. There were some great pop artists like the Cascades, Bobby Vinton, the Four Seasons, Tommy Roe, Ben E. King, Dick Dale, the Beach Boys, the Ventures, Jan and Dean. There was country-western, rockabilly, rock and roll, R&B, Motown, soul. Folk became popular. Electric folk (the Byrds, CSNY, etc.) later evolved from that.
Meaningful, socially conscious lyrics became important for the first time in history.
There was the early British invasion and then the Beatles and Stones. Other Brits followed in the second half of the decade. Psychedelic appeared. Pioneers like Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and ELP demonstrated the evolving potential of electronics.
Progressive rock and hard rock appeared. And by 1970, heavy metal was born.
Originality was allowed to flower.
Part of the reason for the evolution was the presence of a few music producers who were as innovative as the musicians. And before the industry was dominated by a few mega-corporations run by suits, recording companies were willing to take chances. Also, recording studio technology improved throughout the decade.
It would be folly to try to list all the amazing bands and artists of the decade, let alone wonderful songs. New ground was broken and music was transformed. It was a magical time.
You bet your sweet bippy!!
@FunkyMonkee. LOL I know where that phrase came from. 😉
I figured you would.
Music was at its most creative and experimental from the late `50s to the very early `70's. Then it sucked big time for a few years `til new wave came along in `77 and it got REALLY interesting and creative again (partly because of new instruments being invented), but only for about 8 years. From `86 onwards, it's tanked and has been almost nothing but shit ever since!!
A lot of good music came out of the 60s and early 70s.

@WindAtMyBack do you have Sir Elton John?
@Jennz6
Do you mean do I own any? I have 2-3 of his CDs.
He didn't do much in the 60s. He didn't become known until the 70s. I don't think he had any albums at all in the 60s, but he had some singles. Here's one. This is one of his earliest published recordings.

I am a big fan of the 60's and 70's.
I'm seeing the guys all picking the cool bands from the 60's. But there was other great music back then. I loved Sandy Posey's music. I still do.
There were several more but my mind is tired and I can't remember them right now.
I do, I also like The Beach Boys, Beatles and Elton John
Thanks @JessicaRosenAlterEgo for the MHO 💕💯
Actually, Elton John began to rise to popularity in 1970.

This band does Beach Boys songs better than the Beach Boys!
https://www.youtube.com/embed/GmJ6e06eYcMI like 60s music. It was a great decade for the development of rock music, especially because of the Beatles. The Beatles changed the musical landscape.
Happy New Year!
Absobuttfuckinglutely!! It's the best period for music!! Only the early `80's has come close.
I've got over 62,000 records! Come on over and listen to some!
Jimi Hendrix and the Doors are 2 of my favorites. The 60's had the best classic rock, country, soul, etc. I'm pretty sure my parents went to see Ravi Shankar at the Hollywood Bowl, this concert
Yes, the muisic of the 1960's was revolutionary, quite befitting for the decade of cultural upheaval.

Yes, the music from the 60s and early 70s were the best.
I like the 70s a bit more, but the 60s had some good hits.. As every decade did..
The 1960s is considered by many to be the best music era of the 20th Century. I tend to agree, with the 1950s and 1970s close behind.
Yes definitely. The Beatles, Credence Clearwater, even the Monkees. Just to name a few.
yeppers, I listen to 60's classics on Sirius radio, classic vinyl, and the 50s stations as well.
