Orbison both influenced the Beatles and toured with them before coming to the US. The Beatles making their debut appearance in the US on the Ed Sullivan show? That was Orbison's idea. Elvis was once asked what it was like being the worlds greatest singer, he responded, "I don't know you'd have to ask Roy Orbison". So yea no one could compare to Orbison as a singer and song writer, was really the first to sing about men crying when he released crying and wrote one of the first rock songs without a chorus when he wrote running scared.

I Googled this information, and I think Roy's second wife Barbara started her own music business before Roy's death in 1988, and she also managed Roy's estate afterwards, with Barbara passing away in 2011 of cancer.

Roy Orbison died aged 52 of a heart attack, with his three son's inheriting his estate on Barbara's death, one from a previous marriage, and all of his son's are still involved in music.
