It depends on the context. And they call them "casuals" not "consumers" Like those guys who buy the samw NBA 2K or call of duty each year and are embarrassed to play anything else because they don't want to nerd out on other genres most people consider them "casual" and yes there is a lot assholes gatekeeping in video games.

Like the fighting game community. They rage about auto combos in Tekken or Street fighter. Which i don't have an issue with and I think it's fine most high ranking players can still kick their ass even when they have the auto combos.

But the guys in the middle or the people who are upper beginner on classic controls are the ones who complain about it. But they are usually in bronze or Iron.

The good players don't care as much.

And same thing with the souls series. Like Elden Ring i didn't like how it was preventing a lot of newer players from getting into it. The map is way too big, but I've always hated open world games due to the bloat and areas that feel like a waste of time.

A newer player who has a job is going to have a hard time getting into some of these games if they are not familiar with it. I have work, but I've been into the souls series for a while so I can speed run a lot of the sections.

I was happy elden ring came out in switch 2 last week i feel that's the best way to play it.

but of courses the incels are going roast the a lot of the newer players telling them to get good when Elden Ring implements multiple games sekiro, bloodborne, dark souls mechanics into it which the newer player trying to get into is going to have a hard time with player expression.

Or parents but their kids games and they never play them.
