I luv monster movies! To some extent i believe i owe some thanks to the classics. The following monsters are up for consideration: Dracula, Frankenstein’s monster and his Bride, The Mummy, The Werewolf, not to be confused with The Wolfman (who is also up for consideration), The Invisible Man and his counterpart The Invisible Woman, and The Creature From the Black Lagoon.
Interestingly, i was introduced to these classic monsters through crossovers with “Abbott and Costello”. So i never really felt the trepidation that i was probably supposed to. The first monster movie that affected me as intended was probably “Night of the Living Dead”. Unfortunately that’s not a Universal movie and zombies aren’t up for consideration. Ho hum…
I’m going to go with Frankenstein’s monster. That was probably the first monster for whom i ever rooted. A great monster can make you root against the protagonist!
So which classic Universal monster is your favorite?
