Who is arguably the greatest rock band of all time?

[Pterodon]

I’ll throw in my nomination and that would be The Who

I’m really surprised by the nominations for AC/DC. At The Who’s display in the Rock and Roll hall of fame it says they’re arguably the greatest rock band of all time. Also outside the hall of fame in big red illuminated letters it says LONG LIVE ROCK which is a Who song. ‘Nuff said.

AC⚡️DC🎶 for the many great songs, longevity, and all out badasseryness! Bon wrote so many great songs in a 6 year span. There are those who say, " all their songs sound the same!" But they're GREAT songs! Then, consiser how many he wrote. AC⚡️DC has a second act with Brian Johnson who spit out a few great songs. 'Thunderstruck' is a prime example. Then two brothers on guitar who are up there with the best of'em. Shit, they're on tour now.

[Pterodon]

Yeah I liked them too but no I don’t think they are anywhere near the greatest of all time compared to the Holy Trinity of The Beatles, The Stones and The Who. The Trinity didn’t just bring a new sound they also changed lifestyles

[Cidknee]

But only one had any longevity. Acdc pioneered their sound and stage performance. The Beatles had no stage but a lot of good songs. The Who had good stage as I'm sure the Stones had as well. Acdc never retired or broke up. They slowed down a botch with age is all. I guess it really comes down to the type of music you like.

[Pterodon]

The Who never stopped. The lifestyle changes the Trinity made happen cannot be ignored. That’s major impact on society not just good music

[MrChinaski]

The most enjoyable rock bands of all time? The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Smiths, The Clash, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Pearl Jam, The Velvet Underground, The Allman Brothers Band.

The greatest? For sheer longevity the Rolling Stones would have to be high on the list.

[AI Opinion]

If you’re nominating The Who, you’ve got a seriously strong case 🎸

For “greatest rock band,” most people usually debate between The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen, and The Who.

The Who stand out for raw energy, concept albums like “Tommy” and “Quadrophenia,” insane live shows, and Townsend–Daltrey’s stage presence. They’re absolutely in that top-tier pantheon. 🎤🔥

[Pterodon]

Don’t forget they are part of the holy trinity of British Invasion bands of the Stones, Beatles and The Who. Those three and with a nod of respect to the Kinks didn’t just bring a new sound they actually changed and made a new lifestyle that is still going strong to this day

[AngryCarl3]

My friend would definitely say Led Zeppelin. I'd struggle to disagree.

[Pterodon]

They are most definitely the most influential rock band. What separates them from The Who is Zeppelin’s music is heavily blues based while The Who’s music is 100% rock and roll.

[Iron_Man]

I thought you would like the Rolling Stones

[Pterodon]

@Iron_Man I’ve never been a Stones fan. They do have a few catchy songs I like but no they have a sound that’s never hit me. I do have nothing but respect for them and I do believe they are arguably the greatest of time

[Iron_Man]

Ok….

[AngryCarl3]

@Iron_Man I love the Stones so they would be a close second.

[Iron_Man]

Good

[tiredpanda]

Some would say Nickelback... @NathanDavis

[Pterodon]

You know Rock and Roll has been around a very long time

[tiredpanda]

It's a joke...

[NathanDavis]

[EmmaMary]

Most definitely one for you @Nikki1989 xxx

[EmmaMary]

I certainly don't profess to being any kind of expert on this subject, however I've listed three bands that I do enjoy listening to.

Guns & Roses.
Black Sabbath.
Electric Light Orchestra.

[Pterodon]

You should listen to Jeff Lynn’s ELO Wembly or Bust album

[EmmaMary]

I'm sure I've seen this recording on the TV.

[Agape93]

Steely Dan.

Just kidding.

[Pterodon]

Steely Dan is or was known for flawless engineering and recording. Their albums are or were consistently the best produced albums of their time

[Agape93]

Lol.

[Pterodon]

I’ve been a rocker my whole life much to my preacher father’s chagrin. I absolutely LOVE rock and roll

[NathanDavis]

probably Queen... or the Stones

[Iron_Man]

U2 AC DC. The Beatles

[Darkest-Knight]

Iron Maiden or AC/DC

[AgentG111]

Cheap Trick.

[Pterodon]

They were the first concert I went to. It was the Budokhan tour

[Cidknee]

How old were you?

[Pterodon]

I was 16 or 17

[Cidknee]

Like 1980 wasn't it?

[Pterodon]

No it was 1979 if I remember

[Cidknee]

Great album. I especially liked 'Ain't that a Shame'.

[Pterodon]

It was a very fun concert. I won the tickets from my local radio station

[moddy_the_mod]

Zeppelin.

[Pterodon]

Led Zeppelin is my first love. I own all their CD’s. I’ve bought LED Zeppelin II and IV probably 10 times each over the years due to breakage, lost, stolen whatever. I’ve owned them on 8 track, vinyl and disc. I’ve never been without them for very long. They’re still in my library and still get played at least monthly. Led Zeppelin is hands down the most influential rock band of all time but for me Zeppelin takes a back seat to The Who because Zeppelins music is blues based while The Who was influenced by Rock and Roll itself
